This set of 25 premium brad point bits are made from M2 high speed steel and are the finest wood drill bits that we have ever offered. They feature two lips on the perimeter, that finely score the circumference of the hole, prior to the chipping bevels removing the stock. This results in minimal fibre pull and tearing of the wood leaving extremely clean holes in hardwoods, softwoods and composite woods.
The bits are back tapered from the cutting edge to minimise friction and prevent binding and have been fully ground to give precise concentricity to ensure a highly accurate hole. The deep flutes are polished to allow fast chip clearance, preventing the build up of swarf in the flutes, resulting in smooth, scorch-free side walls. M2 high speed steel is extremely hard wearing and retains its hardness over prolonged use, resulting in a bit that will not deform and which will always keep the same cutting geometry over its lifetime. After hardening these bits are tempered to reduce brittleness and increase ductility and toughness, staying sharp 10 times longer than carbon steel brad point bits.

Purchased due to a rather unique project I'm building, a digital 4 manual church organ designed for blind organists, as I'm blind myself. Using these beautifully sharp, clean cutting bits with a woodpeckers autoline drill guide and my favourite cordless drill, I'm getting clean and precise holes without major breakout. Purchased these as I wasn't in the mood to pay famag or fisch prices and rutlands is my trusted go-to brand for all things nice and sharp. So you know, this set comes in a nicely presented wooden case with a foam liner and bits organised perfectly. I had room for two depth stops with a little careful foam cutting, so I have a dedicated drill case. I'm so pleased I purchased these and would highly recommend these to anyone who wants the perfect, clean holes in hard and soft woods.

A quality set of Brad point bits .I agree with the other reviews about the display box where the hinges are out of line and upside down. The review however is about the bits which are superb for the price paid. I can't fault Rutlands .They provide tools at affordable prices and have notice the positive change in the products sold by Rutlands.

Early days, as I've only had these drills a few days, they were well packed, nicely cased (as many Rutland products), and individually wrapped inside the case.
They are sharp, and the few holes I've drilled with them are nicely clean.

Great set of drills at a very sensible price, cut a nice clean hole with little or no tear out, as accurate as any drill I have used and better than most. nice to have them in a fitted box to avoid damage.

Drill are excellent quality as expected. However, the wooden case, whilst good, is poorly finished and looks very amateurish afraid. Varnish looks rushed and haphazard, thicker in one part, missing elsewhere, hinges had screws at at an angle and the catches on the front, well one was upside down.
Shame as the extra money spent on the bits themselves, looks a bit gimmicky. I did email about it but not received a reply, to me that means they know about it and not able to help.

Great bits for hard and soft woods. So many bits today have poorly machined noses but these ones are so consistent. I got my reading glasses out to look at the nose of the 1mm bit and it has exactly the same cutting geometry as the rest. Hard to find good bits today as everything seems price driven, Well done Rutlands.

I used the 10mm bit in this set to drill out for dowels in English Oak, which is notoriously hard. Very easy entrance to the wood and no tears to the surface. I withdrew the bit every 10mm or so to clear the swarf. Cut was superb and so much easier and cleaner than my existing 'economy bit set'. Box is beautiful.

Excellent drills, but I can't help but feel they would be much more accessible in a no-frills metal flip up case. The wooden box they are supplied in is both impractical and poorly finished (big, sloppy varnish brush marks in random directions all over it). Feels like a pointless extra expense to make this feel more premium when, in terms of quality, the bits speak for themselves.
