Product Details

These forstner sawtooth bits are made from a special grade of high carbon steel which is extremely hard wearing and retains its hardness over prolonged use, resulting in a bit that will not deform under heat and which will always keep the same cutting geometry, over its lifetime. The rim of the forstner bit is a fraction of a millimetre higher than the chippers which results in the bit entering the wood cleanly, prior to the chippers clearing the wood. The double-chip channels means swarf is quickly cleared, minimising rim heat, allowing for clean cut, flat bottom holes in hard, soft and exotic woods. The teeth have a skewed geometry to ensure minimal fibre pull and tearing of the wood.

The bits are back tapered from the cutting edge to reduce friction and prevent binding and have been fully ground to give precise concentricity to ensure a highly accurate hole. These bits are primarily used in a drill press or the tailstock of a lathe when boring end grain. The overall lengths of the bits are 90mm, with 10mm round shanks and available in 1mm increments from 8mm to 50mm.

These premium forstner sawtooth bits give an exceptional drilling performance and come with a lifetime warranty - if any bit fails due to a material or manufacturing defect it will be replaced free of charge. Our choice in forstner bits for the discerning woodworker and woodturner. ©

William Denton

I needed 12mm and 14mm forstner bits for a specific job.
Rutlands had exactly what I needed at a decent price. Arrived the next day. Very happy with the quality and service.

Peter Brown

My first Forstner bit looking forward to giving a go drilling dog holes in my bench.

John Essam

Purchased a few of these bits, great quality, easy initial cutting in hardwood and leave a clean hole even when used with a hand drill

Peter Bradshaw

I have several in different sizes now. My go to. Great value for money. Accurate and sharp creating clean holes in the dense hardwoods I tend to use.

David Brearley

45mm perfect size for tea light holder. Cuts nice clean hole in hardwood.

Richard Norton

I love these bits. Sharp and clean, and they clear away the chips nicely. Once I dialled in the drill speed, they hold up to continued use without burning.

Tony Baker

I bought this for use in my wood turning work. The saw toothed rim is especially good when drilling into end grain. At 38mm it is removing a lot of material in use but straight out of the box is producing very clean holes in both green and seasoned timber. The bit is very strongly centered and even when used with an extension very accurate. Delighted with the quality and results produced.

Lee Healey-guest

Excellent item and service as usual , bit did exactly what it is supposed to do.

David Davies

Good price, quick delivery.
Disappointingly the bit was not properly sharpened on arrival, and needed to be worked on to get it operational.

Patrick Farmer

Simple ordering and quick delivery. Used just once so far, but pleased with the performance producing a very neat cavity for a silver birch tea-light holder. Definitely recommended.

Trevor Druett

A very nice sawtooth bit. I used it in an extension to cut end grain in oak, which it coped with admirably. A sensible price and a good range of sizes. I will buy more as I need them.

Paul Grout

I bought a Forster drill which was of good quality and delivered very quickly. I Would recommend Rutland to others on the basis of their fast and efficient service.

Brian Minchin

Top quality tool, top quality delivery all from a from a top quality company.

Paul Carroll

I am building up a full set of bits as I can afford them or when I need them. So glad I chose Rutland, great quality kit and terrific service.

Gareth Jones

Really happy with this purchase, I ordered a 35mm bit to use when I installed my new kitchen cabinet doors. Very smooth to use and left a perfectly flat bottomed hole. Would recommend.
