Product Details
This drill bit depth stop kit comprises of a small and large stop which together accept shank diameters from 2mm to 10mm. The trouble with traditional depth stops that work by tightening a grub screw is that the grub screw can fall into a flute, due to vibrations when in use. When this happens the collar depth stop will work its way up or down your drill bit. The collet on these depth stops tightens around the drill bit, which eliminates this problem. Simply insert your drill bit into the stop, rotate the outer body and an internal collet locks the bit rigidly in position. Once locked in place the bit stop will not slip on the shank under pressure.
These are excellent, fast, simple to use stops that will allow you to precisely control the drilling depths. Ideal for use with HSS twist bits, flat bits, wood augers and brad bits. The depth stops are constructed from a high grade polymer and supplied as a pack of two, the body of the small stop is 30mm in length and the large stop is 50mm. ©

Just what I needed, so fed up with the old ones held in place with a grub screw.
Dorian Dando
An excellent idea that works really well within reason. They are too long for use with smaller diameter normal length bits. Perhaps they could be redesigned with this in mind. However, when used with extra-long bits they are great. Much better than the 'traditional' grub-screw versions which just slip up the drill bit.
John Bowen
always up to now used the type with the small grub screw which are pretty much useless and do not stay in place, these grip really well they do not budge once put on. the only trouble i am having is the smaller one i have difficulty putting drill bits through it.
John Bowen
have always used the type with the grub screws that are useless and move no matter how much you tighten them, these grip really well to the flute of the drill bits. but the small one i find it very difficult to use as it is difficult to get a drill bit through that one. other than that very impressed with ease of use and how well they grip
David Mcmullen
I would suggest the top locking grub screw be relocated to each end of the drilling block with a central line at each end for guidance. David mc Mullen

I've bought several types of dill stop in the past and they have all been for one size drill, meaning I have to find the right size each time I change drill size.
Now I bought these I only need two to cover the whole range of sizes I am likely to need them for. Brilliant.

Finally, something that grips the drill properly with the end that hits the wood guaranteed to remain at right angles so easy to set the depth that does not shift.

I don'tusually bother with reviews but these are such an excellent product and improvement on what's gone before that I feel inspired to. I've used grub screw devices for years and never liked them but these are super. Easy to accurately adjust without the need for an allen key or anything else and the bits don't get bunged up with swarf in such a way that the stop won't move. I wonder if the collets can be replaced should they become worn. I highly recommend them.

I have struggled for years with the metal rings with a grub screw, which always sit skew and are totally useless and putting a piece of tape on the drill, which surprisingly is more effective.
These are an obvious solution, I'm surprised no one has thought of this before. They seem very well made, I've only used them a few times and how robust they will be over the long term, we will have to see but for now they are ideal

So simple to use and a lot more positive than using tape. Only down side is the size limits the depth. Not proved to be a problem yet.
Steve Dennis
Very good depth stops that stay put wherever they are on the shank.
Robert Primhak
Easy to use, and much less fiddly than a grub screw. Quite bulky items; they are fine for dowel holes but a deeper hole on a normal length drill might not be possible due to the length of the stop. I haven't found them slipping with pressure.
Lawrie Thurston
Look ok, like others have said hope the plastic stands the test of time. Got to be better than using a grub screw though
Ian Phillips
Seem to work quite well. Aluminium outer case with a plastic inner. Hopefully the inner will stand up to the test of time. Much better than the locking ring type
Richard Elton
First time I have ever used drill stops and found them to be very good. You do have to be careful that you do not exert too much pressure when you drill as you can force the drill past the preset point but a couple of practice runs gives you a feel for the job.
Would recommend these as an excellent addition to the tool box.

These are well made, a bit disappointed that the collet is plastic. They work quite well but will slip if pressure is applied. My only concern is that they are quite bulky and thus limit the depth of hole that can be drilled with normal size drill bits.
Michael Leveridge
Bought these after using the ring type with a grub screw which are not good as they twist on the drill bit and the grub screw goes in to the drill bit flute. Now these ones from Rutlands are great and have to say they are very good easy to use and does the job well . Just twist to tighten and away you go. Highly recommend
Waldemar Davies
Excellent product, most drill stops are not accurate enough for precision drilling. I have wasted money in the past but cannot fault these, would recommend them to any woodworker or DIY'er. Good value superb product.
Duncan Wright
2 part alloy case,chemical black finish,all good.
Collet is plastic and will move when set on flutes.
I was expecting an alloy collet which would have been more robust and functional.
Still looking for the perfect jobbie.

Great little items, at last someone has produced stops that work. So easy to use, put to immediate use, delighted with the results in both sizes and would definitely recommend.
Frank Rodrigues
These are easy to use and the 2 sizes cover the drill diameters I use most. No more messing around with grub screws and trying to square up the collar, just slip it on the drill, set the depth and twist to lock. Highly recommended.
Paul Finch
You can not beat the simplicity of these stops. They are very effective and do not slip under pressure. 10 out of 10.
John Slatingham
Extremely quick to set up and simple to use. Great depth stops.
Ron Kelly
Thought these might be a bit gimmicky but tried them and they are great. Better than the the collet type I was using.
