Product Details
This premium bench morticer is powered by a 500w, high torque induction motor that is extremely quiet in operation and will mortice up to 16mm in softwood and 13mm in hardwood with ease. The CNC machined cast table has 100mm lateral (side to side) and 40mm longitudinal (front to back) movement operated by two independent handles. This dual action movement allows you to smoothly and accurately align the wood under the chisel and bit for pin point morticing. This method means that you do not need to manually move the wood and hold it in place every cut.
Made from grey iron castings the headstock and table run on dovetail slides. The dovetail slides are fully adjustable to allow for the elimination of any play that may occur from heavy or prolonged use, resulting in a machine that will maintain its accuracy over a lifetime. A gas strut counterbalances the weight of the headstock ensuring a controlled and smooth movement of the chisel into the workpiece. The jaws of the clamp are fractionally inward-tapered to powerfully hold the wood in position, which prevents the wood from rising off the table when removing the chisel. For repetitive depth and length morticing, reliable horizontal and vertical depth stops are provided.
The maximum workpiece size is 110mm high by 120mm deep, with a distance from the centre of chisel to the back fence of 75mm. The optional height extension bracket increases the workpiece height capacity from 110mm to 160mm when working on oversized stock. This power house of a morticer, weighs 46kg and is built and designed for professional use. It accepts industry standard 19mm diameter shank mortice chisels and is supplied in two boxes for ease of transportation. Highly recommended this robust and precise morticer is consistently rated as 5 star in customer reviews. ©

Thanks for the very fast delivery.Three days from the UK to Germany - outstanding. The machine is very solid and does what it should do.For a machine with a longitudinal and lateral Table you have to pay considerably more in Germany. There is nothing to criticize.Very good value for money.I am a satisfied customer. Thank you.

Easy to assemble, sturdy and well made for the money. Initially there was a bit of side play in the table but that was easily fixed using the adjustment bolts. The only issue I had was the drill chuck sliding of the tapered motor spindle on occasions when doing a full 50mm depth mortice. But this can be avoided by doing the mortice in stages. On the whole an ideal machine for DIY and very pleased with my purchase.

Excellent bench top machine , easily assembled on receipt and accurate once set up. A great addition to small workshop, and at the offer price well worth it.
Saves so much time - just morticed sixteen window shutter frames each with four mortices , with no problem.

I was really impressed with the build quality and I have been after one of these for a number of years but the cost of them was a bit prohibitive. With the deal that Rutlands had, I could not resist any longer. Great bit of kit it puts square holes in any timber I stock ( Oak, Elm, Sycamore just to mention a few ) very easily and with having a moving bed it makes it so much easier and more accurate than using a drilling machine attachment and a lot faster too. Its easy to assemble when delivered and easy to set up to do the job in hand, square holes. Also having the riser block as well, makes it a dream to use on the bigger jobs.
Well done Rutlands

This was my first morticer. It is very solidly built and the sliding table slides smoothly and controllably in both dimensions. I have tested it on a deep through mortice in sapele and found it performed excellently.

Been after one of these with the sliding table for months , but which one? Took advantage of Rutlands offer price and bought this . Firstly it was easy to put together, didn't need the instructions.I think I was lucky the sliding tables did not need adjusting action was very smooth. With my old morticer it was a fight to get the chisel in then a fight to get it back out, every thing is much easier as the machine clamps the wood nice and tight. I have no qualms whatsoever about recommending this machine

First impressions are a good piece of kit. Looks solid and should take what I will need to throw at it. Assembly instructions not that hot but only took me a couple of minutes to work it out for myself anyway (and I would assume that anyone using machinery such as this would not have a problem). At the price would certainly recommend it.

Ordered on Monday and received on Tuesday, so full marks to Rutlands for service! The morticer is a littel fiddly to set up (especially attaching the motor to the sliding carriage on the column) and there was some transit damage to the motor itself, but overall this is a fair machine for the money. The clamp is strong and the stops work well. Motor is quiet. I would have liked something on the main lever to stop it sliding about, but I can sort that out myself. The machine has fairly low power and it does flex when using the 16mm mortice chisel and bit. But it is a small benchtop machine and one shouldn't expect too much. It will do 16mm mrtices in 95mm softwood (with some effort), which is the reason I bought it. A more powerful machine would cost a lot more and take up a lot more space, so I am happy enough.

This is a robust piece of kit. Easy to assemble - instructions, though brief, were sufficient. Cuts a very accurate and clean mortice. The lateral movement is firm and positive, likewise proximal/distal movement. Just one slight niggle, if the material is wide, the control knob of the proximal/distal movemenyt may obstruct the control lever of the lateral movement. Although there are alternative sockets for the lever rod, unless the machine is positioned very close to the front of its supporting table, these alternatives allow for limited movement. But this is a small matter in light of the generally excellent build of the machine.Overall, a very useful addition to a workshop.

Very very happy saved so much time on the job with this machine and time is money they say .... If your thinking then don't just buy while it's cheap.... Couldn't do without this now....

Well well what can say ,, but a BIG thank you to rutland tools for such a great bit of kit , I was lucky in that rutland tools were having a mad spell and sold me this machine at a very good rate . This bench morticer is very very good , I've been looking for one for some time , I've check out a number of machine and this is by far the you can get to silly money , so if you are in market for one then buy this one. You can't go wrong

Morticer arrived safely here in Ireland, very easy to assemble and the motor runs extremely quietly. Installed the morticer on a unit I built with two bolts either side of the base. The only thing I would change the handle for a wheel that moves the base side to side. For the money it's an excellent buy and fully recommended.

I purchased one of these mortice machine and had free 24 hr delivery though this fell over the bank holiday. The machine I have found excellent and good value, I have been looking for a machine that had sliding bed in both directions and I have now found one. Chippy

Great piece of kit for the price. The clamp actually works and keeps the workpiece firmly held when the chisel is withdrawn. You will need to buy the extension piece too if you want to construct doors.

The assembly instructions are not that good however set up is very simple and took me less than 20 minutes. The only tweak I had to make was to adjust the screws on the gib strip because the lateral movement was quite stiff when first out of the box. Really impressed with how quiet the motor runs.

Rutlands advised me that this morticer could mortice up to 1/2" in oak. I was slightly dubious however I purchased it on the basis that I would return it if it failed on the oak. I should have more faith - it worked perfectly. Just make sure that the window in the chisel that extracts the shavings is facing toward the hole you have just cut. This way the chisel does not get clogged up. Highly recommended.

I recently invested in this morticer for making the framework for my new kitchen units. I am absolutely delighted with it. The ability to move the chisel back and forth with the hand wheel makes setting up simple and precise. I estimate it has saved me two or three days in man hours compared to hand morticing. Brilliant.

Weight - it is made of cast iron, so when it is assembled it weighs a ton. I am a big guy and I find it awkward to lift. If you have mobility issues, plan to get this thing mounted in a permanent location.
Use - I tested it quickly after assembly. Seems to work well for the price point. As you would expect for a machine of this price you have to know what you are doing when setting up/loading chisels. Just watch some videos. Seems to work well, but I instantly removed the sideways movement stops after installing as they are 10 times the trouble they are worth. The slide table seems to be OK, but I prefer the wheel on the axminster machine as this one is over geared and moves too much. Plus it is fiddly having to constantly take out the bar. A hold down lock in the sliding table would be useful to stop the workpiece lifting up with the chisel when you lift out, but minor point. You just have to really tighten the workpiece in the vice. The motor will cope with small home workshop jobs, but it is not industrial grade, so take your time with it.
Overall, good quality machine for the price made with cast iron.
