The perfect knife for marking out large projects, this Japanese marking knife has a long, tapered blade. The extra length of this cutting edge over other marking knives gives it an added stability making it less likely to wander in use. Single bevelled for right handed use, this knife will sit flush against a straight edge, rule or marking gauge for total accuracy in your marking.
Made using traditional Japanese methods, this knife is formed from two layers of steel; a hard layer that forms the cutting edge and a layer of softer steel hammer welded over the top to give support and adds strength to the knife. The cutting edge is made from high carbon steel and is very hard but will take a razor like edge. As the steel is so hard, the cutting edge will last much longer than blades made of softer steel however it does take a little while longer to put the edge back on the blade once dull. To speed up the process the back of the knife is hollow ground so only the back of the cutting edge needs flattening and not the whole knife. The blade is mounted in a Japanese magnolia wood handle and has a matching magnolia wood sheath to protect the knife blade when not is use. Blade length 105mm. Made in Japan. ©

One problem is that the blade on mine was bent on arrival. Thankfully the blade is constructed in the Japanese style of soft iron atop thin hardened edge steel. This meant I was able to straighten the blade with a small hammer and block. Not being a particularly budget marking knife, and given one of it's selling points was the long straight backed blade, I wasn't initially impressed.
Now straight and resharpened (made much easier due to being hollow ground), it works great.
Excellent delivery service from Rutland as always.
