This jig kit has been specifically designed to make dowel jointing faster, simpler and with greater accuracy. Unlike conventional jigs that only allow for edge to edge jointing, with this jig you can create edge to surface joints, edge to corner joints and edge to edge joints and it features a 15mm drill guide for use with cam lock dowels.
The main body of the jig features a series of five perfectly aligned holes to accept the drilling guide bushes of either 6, 8 or 10mm. The five bushes improve drilling accuracy and alignment as you do not need to remove and reposition the jig as many times. This dowel jig is manufactured from CNC machined aircraft-grade aluminium and beautifully finished in black electro-coating.
When edge drilling the jig adjusts to suit different board thicknesses from 10mm through to 50mm. Two round bars slot through the body of the jig, allowing you to slide the jig back and forth along the edge of the board to position your holes. A stop at the end of the bars enable you to transfer the hole positions for one edge to the other. When surface drilling you simply use the base of the jig and slide the drilling head to your desired position.

Previously used a plastic body dowel jig and it kept flexing resulting in the matching dowel holes being fractionally out of line. The advantage of this jig is that you have five bushes all of the same diameter on one block. So the risk of the holes not being aligned is gone. Very nicely finished and supplied in a storage case with everything included.

I have used the jig on two projects to date. So far I am very impressed. It is very well made from aluminium and the drill bits are sharp and leave a clean sided hole that snuggly accepts my dowels. It's great for dowelling on a large flat boards as you simply unscrew the drilling face of the jig, clamp to the board and drill. What I really like though is the red location pegs that you put into your previously drill hole. This acts as a stop and prevents the jig from wandering when drilling. It's a quality jig.

This is one of those things that impresses on first sight and makes you wonder about the mind that thought of it. I couldn't wait to use it so I assembled it to test, well impressed with build quality and precision. Very easy to set, versatile and has several smart and very useful features.
Comes in hdpe tool case however it has to be stored disassembled, which isn't an issue as its very easy to set, I actually prefer to store it flat in the case.
Delivery to Ireland very quick, Rutlands say 5 days I got my package in 2 working days.

Bought this when it was Rutland's 'deal of the day' as I'll need it for a job I'm working on. So I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it looks very well made with a good range of adjustment and 'control' for positioning and spacing of dowel holes.
I think it will be one of those tools I only need to buy once because it will do the job, do it well and due to it's quality not need replacing.
I'm a competent DIYer who prefers to spend a bit more on quality tools rather than cheaper ones that might not last. Very much looking forward to using this dowel jig, teaching grandson(s) how to use it and, hopefully, passing it on to one of them one day!
I think it will be one of those tools I only need to buy once because it will do the job, do it well and due to it's quality not need replacing.

Seems nicely made, but this is a Rutland branded product that is marketed on Amazon by many Chinese companies with exactly the same box and accessories at both higher and lower prices. The design is sound except that you cannot accurately centre the holes in material that is 18, 22, 25mm etc as the unit only locks every 2mm. Much is made of the accurate scale on the jig, but this limitation is not mentioned. Also I have yet to discover how to align the jig on a precise spot along the length of the wood. The instructions are not very good. They tell you how to assemble the jig but don't tell you how to align to a point. Doubtless I will work a way out for this but at this price it would be nice if there were better instructions or videos of it in use. ..

This is a really well-conceived and well-made piece of kit but I did experience a couple of hiccups.
1) The screws provided were too short to attach the fence properly. Rutlands did ship out some longer ones to me fairly promptly though.
2) The 8mm drill bit that came with the kit was slightly bent so I get a bit of a wobble when using it with the guide bush.
3) The 2mm adjustments on the fence make it impossible to centre the holes on the edge of an 18mm panel. Having them 1mm off centre isn't a massive issue but it does mean you have to make sure you are coming in from the same side on your joints otherwise the alignment will be a disaster.
Overall its a really useful tool and the results were great but knocking a star off for the reasons above.

*UPDATE* on my last post, I mentioned the issue with the short retaining screw for the slide plate, Rutland kindly sent replacements very quickly so excellent customer service. however, since using, I have encountered an issue with accuracy. the sliding angle plate (sets you center distance) has a toothed retaining duide which I fully understand, however th teeth only allow increments of 2mm in equal division, so 2mm 4mm 6mm etc. this proves difficult to set the back stop to the centre of boards, particularly with standard sizes such as 18mm, 22mm etc. I am going to look at having a 1mm shim plate to over come this but at a premium price, the adjustment should really be more accurate?

i had this brought for me for my birthday and havent rearlly had chance to use it as yet, so will update later. however, on first impressions the kit is well made, feels a quality piece of kit and seems to have all the bits needed for a number of scenarios. PROBLEM. although small, the locking screws that lock the angled guide plate to the main body are so short the brass locking nuts will not engage. small issue but with spending this amount of money i would expect some sort of quality control prior to sending out. other than that, will update once i have had chance to use it in anger.
