Product Details
These traditional Japanese marking knives are made using traditional methods and principles. The blades are made from two layers of steel. The cutting edge and back is exceptionally hard high carbon steel with a softer steel hammer forged over the top. By making the marking knives in this way, the blades can be much harder and, therefore, sharper than a blade forged from a single piece of steel. The hard carbon steel back is hollow ground meaning that, to save time in sharpening, only the back of the bevel and edges of the back require flattening. These knives feature a single, right hand bevel and are designed for right hand use. The single, rather than double, bevel makes the knives far more accurate when marking out and cutting using a straight edge. These knives do not have wooden handles instead, the blade and handle are one. Despite this, these knives are remarkably comfortable to hold. Length 170mm.©

I choose the wider 12mm knife as I gave fairly big hands.
The knife tapers gently from the business end to the top of the handle and fits nicely into the hand.
It arrived quite sharp and it is very easy to get a very sharp edge. The back is hollow ground so very simple to back off.
The knife is ground for right hand use, I suppose that you could grind the knife to a 'V' point but I'm not sure how the hollow back would work.
I'm looking forward to many years great service from this knife.
