A straight edge is invaluable for ensuring accurate work throughout your projects. The edge is made from an aircraft grade aluminium extrusion, making it extremely strong and corrosion resistant. The bottom edge has been machined using state of the art techniques to ensure it is flat to within 0.04mm over its entire length. Used as an aid for machine set-up such as calibrating jointer or planer thicknesser tables and aligning fences on router tables or table saws.
The edge weighs 800g and the machined base is 10mm wide, meaning it can easily stand unaided on the machine surface while you make adjustments. The premium quality straight edge has been anodised to enhance its durability and there is a hanging hole for easy storage in the workshop. Measuring 965mm long the edge perfect for general use across a multitude of projects. There are also crisp and clear metric scales on both the front and back of the straight edge, giving the option of it being used as a rule if needed. The edge is supplied in a heavy duty cardboard tube and both ends are covered with protective polymer caps. This is about the best straight edge that I've ever owned! It stands on its own, has easy to read mm divisions and is coated in a plastic coating so is protected. It has weight so is good to use. A quality tool

I've been wanting to get a straight bar for a while and wow daily deal was the perfect time to get it without annoying the wife. What a fantastic new toy to add to the workshop! Beautifully machined and the rule goes both ways on mine, reversed one side, brilliant. The worst thing was I thought it would be funny to see if my walls were straight and to my horror they were like a hall of mirrors fairground ride.
In all honesty I bought it to make sure my table saw was flat and a few other machine tables in the shack also having a perfect straight edge for the jigsaw and some other toys. The boy is annoyed it's not a perfect metre but hey it's not his it's mine and I like it. Thankyou Rutland's for another awesome toy.

This Straight Edge is excellent..as I would expect from Rutlands. It is very well manufactured from quite dense Aluminium and it as flat and straight as advertised. The wide foot means it stands on its own which is very handy. I'm really pleased with it, especially as it was on offer. Great value and quality. Would recommend!

It is a great looking straight edge. Nice size and weight. It is as flat as they say it is. Good price. Would recommend buying.

Lovely quality, nice weight, nice finish.
However there are some aspects that I don't like about it (which I was aware of before I purchased ... but I couldn't find much choice out there without spending £180 on a steel version from RS, so I'm not moaning really).
I don't understand why the bottom edge is rounded slightly and painted gloss black. It makes it totally impossible to 'eyeball' whether you have a discrepancy on a piece, without either using a light behind or using feeler gauges. Surely a sharper corner and self coloured would be far better?
First job for me .... peel of the tape measure as that seems a bit pointless, second taks and most important is to remove the paint from the bottom lip / sides and square up those bottom edges. Warranty voided, but a significantly more useful tool as a straight edge, for me anyway.

A well made item and very useful. It is only 4 stars however as the measuring scale runs the same way both sides which is really irritating. If the scales ran opposite ways on either side it would be a 5 star item.

This is a great addition to aid in my machine tool calibration activity. The straight edge has a nice finish & weight to it with the added bonus of having a rule along its length. Excellent value, highly recommended.

Great straight edge. Has a nice weight to it. Will come in handy when making guitars. My only gripe is that the direction of the rule measurements goes in the same for both sides and not left to right one side and right to left the other side.

Well made, not heavy but its able to sit on its own, leaving hands free to check alignment etc. Im a guitar builder and need a straight edge for a number of tasks and this fits the bill. Great price for what you get.

The quality of the product is excellent however I am very disappointed that the direction of the scale is the same on both sides. One side should go from 0cm in the left to 97cm right and the other should be the opposite. As it happens, both sides go from 97cm on the left to 0cm on the right. The way it is set up makes it unsuitable for what I intended.

Very useful for applications other than a leveller/straight edge. I'm going to use it as the 'backbone' of an optical bench for testing lenses and prisms, etc. Of course I'll have to make all the holders, clamps and attachments but its shape makes it relatively easy to do so. Ideally, being fully metric, I would have liked it to have been 1000mm long, but, never mind, it's a small point.
