The Maruto is a gouge that features the deepest profile of all of the gouges offered. Used for cutting channels and flutes. Very different in form to Western carving chisels, Japanese carving tools feature much shorter blades in relation to their handles. These chisels Have laminated steel blades and are made from a base layer of hardened blue paper steel which forms the cutting edge with a softer steel forged over the top. This means the blue paper steel can be much harder allowing it to take an exceptionally fine edge. These carving tools feature magnolia wood handles that feel soft and are comfortable to hold. Chisels measure 205mm in overall length with 26mm long blades.©

What a great tool. This is the smoothest cutting and carving tool I have used. Cuts through wood (eucalaptus burr) leaving a clear, sharp edge. Well worth the money and I will be buying more.
