Block Planes
Made exclusively for Rutlands® by Luban, a world leader in hand plane manufacturing, these planes are a serious alternative to the premium brands that are produced in North America. The renowned design has a screw mechanism that easily allows the blade to be varied in depth relative to the sole to change the depth of cut.
Standard Angle Block Plane
A block plane is small enough to be used in one hand and is designed for cutting end grain and making trimming or fine adjustment cuts. This block plane has a modified body casting to make it more responsive in use and a finer pitch blade adjustment thread for improved blade setting accuracy. An adjustable nosepiece allows the mouth to be opened or closed to accommodate coarse or ultra-fine shavings, this nosepiece is secured in place with a knurled brass knob. A 35mm wide, 25° bevelled blade is seated at 20° within the plane, giving an effective angle of 45° for general purpose work. The plane has an overall length of 165mm and weighs 850g.
Materials & Manufacturing
The plane body features heavy, stress relieved ductile iron castings which are precision machined to ensure the soles are flat and square to the sides. The plane is fitted with a T10 high carbon steel tool blade which can take a keen edge, and that has been hardened to RC60-64 for maximum edge retention. The blade is held in position by a large bronze cap iron with an integrated palm rest which allows the plane to nestle snugly in the hand. The planes have a lifetime warranty and in the event that they should fail due to a material or manufacturing defect will be replaced free of charge. ©

A completely different animal to my old record block plane. Heavy casting beautifully finished. The brass hold down has a smooth rounded finish which sits well in the palm of the hand. The blade is a thick piece of high grade steel which only required minimum fettling to get a razor sharp edge. Very impressed with the quality and the price. These Chinese planes are really on a par with the more expensive North American makes. Ideal for trimming especially end grain with no break out

Great plane. Nicely machine, good quality steel used for the blade. Overall, top quality

I PURCHASED THIS PLANE PART ON REVIEWS AND PART ON GUT FEELING AS I HAVE A STANLEY SWEETHEART BUT DO NOT LIKE IT .THIS BLOCK PLANE IS NICE TO HOLD IN THE HAND, HEAVY TO USE , THIS I LIKE GOOD VALUE WOLD RECOMMEND

I have to agree with all the others here in praise of this little gem. The finish of it is superb but I was most impressed by its weight at over 800 grams. Its narrower than my old record but much more comfortable in the hand. This gives it a great feel and an inertia that makes it a pleasure to use. The Chinese can make good tools!

I have just bought one of these fantastic little block planes. Quite contrary to my usual choice, I don't as a rule by chinese stuff, however, this plane has already proven itself to be worthy of sitting amongst my stanleys a records.Infact I would go so far as to say it is better. Not only does it look good it works perfectly too. There was no need to mess about flattening the sole etc, just a quick hone to add the secondary bevel and it works very efficiently. T he machining is to a very high quality and it shows sraight from the box.

5/5 an excellent choice for the enthusiast and joiner

These 'planes are unlike so many of cheap imports coming in from the Far East today. They are direct 'clones' of the Lie-Nielsen models but, they're also comparable to the high-range in terms of performance. Very well made, they feel solid and the plane iron takes a good, sharp edge - and holds it well! Without owning a L-N block plane, I cannot honestly see what those do that these planes don't...!

The plane has a really nice weight and feel to it, it cuts comfortably in the hand.
Upon opening up the box I found that the bottom needed flattening an m along with the iron. The flattening of both items took a fair bit of time, but once flattened and sharpened it was brilliant.
It's such a a nice plane to use once properly sharpened, I'm so glad that I opted for this as it's a bit to use.
