Product Details

Incredible power and precision in a compact body, this 1/4" router has been carefully engineered to provide a high quality and enjoyable routing experience. Open up a world of creative woodworking possibilities, whether trimming, joining, edge profiling or sign making this portable router will tackle all tasks with complete ease. Equally adept as a handheld unit or mounted in a router table, it will quickly become your go-to tool and an invaluable addition to your toolkit.

The tough main body and router base are CNC machined from strong aluminium die castings, offering superior rigidity and strength to withstand the most demanding of tasks. This aluminium construction also offers a lighter weight with the entire unit weighing under 3kg for more comfortable use and more precise control when routing by hand. The two large handles on the base feature a soft rubberised grip, ergonomically designed for comfort and control. On the base of the router is an anti-friction, non-marring plastic sub base to ensure a smooth sliding movement over the workpiece.

Enjoy an effortlessly smooth plunge mechanism, giving you complete control during plunge cuts or whilst setting the height of your router bit. A three turret depth stop allows you to precisely control plunge depths and the base features a simple to use locking system when the height needs to be fixed. The main body of the router can be removed from the plunge base and fitted to a range of optional bases further increasing the flexibility of the tool. The optional trimmer base offers ultra-precise one handed control, perfect for edging work, whilst the offset base allows you to get in closer to edges and tight corners with increased stability.

The powerful 710 watt high torque motor generates an impressive output of 580 watt allowing you to tackle the toughest of hardwoods with confidence. Featuring a variable speed control dial, the motor speed can be adjusted from 13,000 to 33,000 rpm, allowing you to select the speed most suitable for the diameter of your router bit. Higher speeds are recommended for smaller diameter bits, whilst the slower speed ranges allow for the use of larger diameter bits. Engineered with soft start technology, once powered on the motor will slowly increase in speed to the speed set by the user, eliminating dangerous kick back potentially leading to injury. This precision router has also been designed for quiet and vibration free operation further enhancing the safety and comfort of the user.

The kit comes supplied with 1/4" and 3/8" collets, compatible with 1/4" or 3/8" diameter shank bits. Dust collection is handled with the included dust nozzle which fastens securely to the base, collecting dust at the source, close to the router bit. This keeps the working area clean, maintaining the quality of your cuts for the best possible results. Also included is an adjustable side fence to guide the router parallel to the edge of the work and a spare set of motor brushes. The router has a 3 year warranty and in the event that it fails due to a material or manufacturing defect the component will be replaced free of charge. Highly recommended. ©

Very well made sturdy piece of kit, looks like it will outlast me.

Billy Kirk

Realy like this router, well made and comfortable to use would recommend

Keith Dorn

Lots of power and comfortable to use. Ive used many routers over the years and this compares well to all.
I put this router through an intensive workout and it performs exceptionally without becoming hot as many other routers of this price do. Well done Rutlands another great tool.

Craig Dunn

Fantastic service from ordering to delivery.
Definitely recommend to anyone.

Andy Kay

Amazing router, best one I've used compared to other big brands. I was trained by a very talented carpenter who loved routers and had quite afew. He recommended this to me and I don't regret it. Super precise with some great features.

Roger

A joy after using a more basic one before.
Engineered to work rather than 'value-engineered' to make it cheap.

Jet

Good value for money as you are not paying extra for a brand name. First router but it has done everything I needed it to do so far.

Alastair Kinnear

I bought this versatile 1/4 inch router to supplement my heavy 1/2 inch router for carving house signs. It is a joy to use and comes with the no quibble 3 year warranty, what's not to love.

Kevin Malkin

New to Rutlands - very impressed so far. Placed order and dispatched promptly and arrived next day as promised. I have a heavy duty router and was looking for a light weight machine and this seems to fit the bill. Have used it once to inset some veneer and all went very well. So far - so good and as the machine has a 3 year warranty I feel that this was a good buy. Plus had a price reduction and it came with useful attachments. Great!

Tim Blackman

I have had one of these for quite a time now which I use more often than my 1/2" routers and have been so impressed that when my Son-in-law's Elu died I had no hesitation in getting him one for his birthday.
To say he is delighted is an understatement. In particular he likes how easy it is to change bits by lifting the body out of the base giving 360 degree access to the securing nut.

Gareth Owen

Nice compact light weight router. Bought because my other router is a larger and heavier bit of kit, which lacks a sense of feel. Just done my first job a simple rebate for a piano hinge this router was beautifully smooth, light and accurate, a real pleasure to use.

David Smith

Bought as a Christmas present, so not yet used in anger. Feels well made with good smooth plunge action and nice speed control. Looking forward to Boxing Day to use in earnest.

Anthony Armstrong

Very surprised at the robust quality of the unit. Well cast and machined, with a good finish. The motor sounds really smooth and not at all loud when running free. All the adjustments work as they should do. The unit promises to be a good performer over time based upon the solidity and design. When running the motor first time there was no smell at all as there is often with lower quality units, this indicates quality components used in manufacture and well built. Very pleased so far. A+

Steve Moore

Good bit if kit
It looks robust enough to survive.
Small enough that you can actually use it with a shorter router bit

Richard Scarborough

A great piece of kit. Excellent value for money. Very solid build quality. I'm very happy with this product.

Scott Robertson

Excellent for the money, punches well above it's weight and a perfect addition to anyone's workshop or shed. Found the different bases extremely versatile, easy to use and of a quality beyond their price point.

Craig Stones

Had been considering buying this router for a while. After using this router for various jobs this is a fantastic router great control perfect for all trimming jobs.

Ian Seddon

Had been considering buying this router when it came up on a 12 hour price drop for almost half price! Absolute no-brainer!
Have only used it a couple of time so far, but I am impressed with the build quiality of the machine and the quality of the finish that can be achieved. It's very easy to handle.
Excellent value for money, as I've come to ecpect from Rutlands.

Martyn Freeman

Been looking for a smaller router for a while and this looked ideal. Have only cut some 6mm rebates for drawer bottoms so far, but, it's very easy to use and the adjustable guide fence fits in the trim router base too.

Very easy to guide and use. Dust collection good too for a router with the included clear shrouds which are good enough to see what you are doing still.

I really like it.

Mark Walsh

exelent little machines, I now have 5 of these, It's quicker and easier to change the bodies than the router bit. fantastic
I buy quite a lot from this site and it's always good quality and value for money, keep up the good work guy's.

Happy Woodturner

Rutlands are always great for quality and value, I have purchased quite a few things over the short amount of time that I have known about them, and I would definetly recommend them to anyone.
I especially like the 12 hour price drops they are always a treat to recieve.
This router is strong and powerful, and the non slip router mat is very reliable it holds everything in place what more can you want.

Paul Atkinson

Just recently acquired the Precision 1/4" Router with Trimming, Offset and Tilting Bases and it definitely does what it says on the tin. It has a professional feel to it and glides through any timber I used with ease. The tilting base is a great attachment to the router and chamfers edging perfectly. I particularly think the offset base is fantastic which makes getting closer to the edge very easy, I would recommend this product to anyone.

Claudio Boudakian

Excellent product, I did use, and the results were perfect.
It's lightweight but potent.
I recommend this product and this store.

Peter Dean

After using this router for various jobs over a few months, I feel I can now give a review. It's a great little device powerful, easy to handle and provides good results. Its nice it comes with dust extraction ports. For the price against similar branded products it's a no brainier. Just one point as one reviewer Graham Hailstone pointed out the on/off switch small and awkward to use, but cannot complain for the price.
A great product Rutlands; it's a winner for me.

Adrian Barascu

Excellent value for the money.
Bought it with the fixed round router base.
Have both RT0700 and 3709/3710 from Makita. This is on par with the RT0700, and way above 3709 in build quality.
Quite and powerful for it's size, nice feeling when working with it. The plunge base works ok, some burrs on the parallel fence, fixed in 1 minute with a file.
If you could bring metric collets it would be perfect. I am using the ones that came with the makita. :)
Would recommend to anybody searching for a router of this size.

P Hardy

Very well balanced router that is easy to control with one hand. Used it to make a sign with the Milescraft Sign Pro kit and it worked a treat. Great little router with a lot of power and precision.

Mr Vernon Jones

I have been looking for a compact router for some time as a addition to my old Elu. I was looking at the Makita RO700 and I am sure this is the same router. The castings appear identical apart from the branding and the motor casing has the same shape and air vents. Anyway I took the plunge (ha ha) and purchased this router last week. The general design and manufacturing quality is excellent, the motor is very smooth when running though the speeds and the plunge is controlled with minimal side play. I have routed some through dovetails and added a beading to piece of 7/8" wide oak and it has been easy to hold and manoeuvre with one hand. Make sure you press hard on the plunge lock lever other wise it can creep back up. Fantastic buy and well recommended.

James R

I have a very large Makita 1/2" router that is quite difficult to control when edging due to its size and weight. This compact router is excellent at edging as you can clearly see the cutting line and due to its narrow body you can use with one hand. The build quality is far greater than I expected and is made mainly from aluminium die castings. So far the power of the motor has been sufficient for my work and the control dials and on off switch are easily reached with your fingers whilst still gripping the body. This is a quality router that I can would recommend for edge routing and fine detail work. Five out of five so far.

Terry Hodges

My first forray into routing and it has been an excellent tool and a pleasure to use. I purchased this alongside a sign making kit and the results are fantastic. Have since bought the trimming base and a roundover bit and its produced soft beautiful edges that add that professional touch to my projects. Very happy with my purchase and definitely now a routing convert.

Kian Yates

Best value router Ive seen , only given it light use so far but its performed well

noah galvan

a very good router for the money, there is a lot of choice around and it is hard to know what to go with but I'm glad I went for this one it has been excellent so far. quieter than I thought it would be too
