Product Details

These premium Japanese water stones are man-made from Corundum, a synthetic aluminium oxide abrasive, set in a resin bond. The finish that you achieve with a water stone is a combination of the particle size, durability of the abrasive and the resin bond strength. These water stones have a medium strength bond and wear relatively slowly, releasing fresh, sharp abrasive at a reduced rate in comparison to stones with weaker bonds that release abrasive at higher rates and wear down more quickly. The water stone formulation is excellent for sharpening O1 general tool steel, the steel commonly used to make knives and are fast cutting when sharpening tough alloys such as A2 and M2 high speed steels which are used to manufacture chisels, plane irons, turning and carving tools. You simply immerse the stones in water and allow to soak for 3 to 5 minutes, at which point they are ready for use. It is important to ensure the water stone retains moisture during the sharpening process.

The fresh abrasive particles break down and dull during the sharpening process, creating progressively finer grits, allowing you to move seamlessly from a coarse 1000 grit stone, to a medium 2000 grit stone to the fine mirror-finish 3000 grit stone. After use leave the water stone to dry out naturally, before using a diamond flattening stone to re-level the face of the water stone. The stone is mounted in a rubber polymer base to stop the stone from wandering during the sharpening process whilst protecting the work surface from scratching.

This set consist of 1000, 2000 and 3000 grit water stones. The 1000 grit water stone is the fastest cutting stone and is used to remove nicks before sharpening and to shape and establish a basic edge. The 2000 grit water stone is used after the 1000 grit stone to refine the edge of knives and tools and the 3000 grit water stone is used to quickly add a mirror finish and final polish. The water stones measure 180mm in length with a width of 60mm and a depth of 14mm. These premium Japanese water stones are excellent for the sharpening, honing and mirror polishing of kitchen knives, outdoor knives and all fine edge woodworking tools. These stones have a lifetime warranty and in the event of a failure due to a material or manufacturing defect the stone will be replaced free of charge. ©

Such a great product and at the sale price an absolute steal.
Small enough to sit permanently on my tiny workspace but big enough to sharpen my 2" chisel.
Colour codes to make sharpening easier and labelled with the grit number just in case.
Can't fault them, left a razor sharp edge on my oldest chisel.

I find these work best if you leave in luke warm water for no more than two minutes. I have sharpened and honed my 25 year old wood handle pen knife and it is now razor sharp and has a lovely polished edge. Cleaned up the blade with some 000 steel wool and looks beautiful. Now for the kitchen knives.

Fantastic value for these really good stones. Came the next day and I went to the kitchen sharpen all the knifes, then to the garage for sharpen the planes and chisels. With the 3000 grit you get a really fine finish.

I have been using these Waterstones regularly for well over a year and find them to be as effective as the more expensive stones I own. I definitely recommend them.

Great set of stones . Just started using stones and these are perfect . Really helped me hone my skill because there's little effort to get results on my plane iron's and chisel's . GET A SET , YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED .

Fantastic set of stones at a great price!

The included rubber bases are very grippy, so no worries about them moving away while you're sharpening.

I'll never go back to oil stones now I've tried wet stones, so much better.

Good stones with good size. Nice finish and seem to keep their shape. Anti-slip rubber casting is a nice touch.

Patrick Hawes

Very good value for money, decent size stones and help to give a good edge, the rubber base is a nice inclusion and works nicely keeping it stable. Personally I'd prefer a finer stone as well but as a starter kit this is excellent.

I have a number of Hock plane blades that I regularly honing and sharpen. In the past I have used diamond stones however they can be very aggressive and in my opinion can damage the structure of the steel making the cutting edge brittle and short lived.Having purchased these Chinese stones and spent some time testing them out on an old Veritas A2 blade I am able to achieve extremely sharp blades whilst maintaining the strength of the blade. The secret is take your time and not to exert pressure on the blade or the stone. Let the stones particles gradually create the edge. To final hone the edge remove any stone swarf and gently move the edge over the stone with minimal pressure. Excellent.
