A router collet extension is perfect to use when an increased height of router bits is needed on router tables, routing jigs or router bases. These extensions give 50mm of additional height and allows you to easily change router bits above your router table. Simply insert the extension into your router, then insert the router bit into the ER engineering collet and secure it by tightening the collet nut.
The 1/4" extension is supplied with a standard 1/4" multi slit ER16 engineering collet and the 1/2" extension is supplied with standard 1/4" & 1/2" multi slit ER20 engineering collets. These collets fully grip around the router bit shank for safer routing with less vibration. The collets are made from heat treated precision ground spring steel which gives a runout accuracy of less than 0.01mm. The 1/4" collets have been specifically designed to grip over a 1mm range from 6.5mm down to 5.5mm meaning both 1/4" imperial and 6mm metric shank router bits can be used in the extension. The 1/2" collet has been designed in the same way to grip over a range from 13mm down to 12mm meaning both 1/2" imperial and 12mm metric shank router bits can be used. The extension body has been precision machined from a single piece of high-quality steel which has been computer balanced to minimize vibrations to ensure the extension and therefore router bit will run perfectly true.

Bought these when they were on on offer. They are of good quality and well balanced. Very handy when I use the router table to get extra height. It is a shame they do not come with the collet spanners . I had to purchase elsewhere as they were out of stock here at Rutlands

These router collet extensions arrived very promptly from Rutlands and were clearly a bargain at the special offer price (£30 the pair). I haven't used them yet, but they appear to be well made, and I see no reason why they shouldn't do the job of the occasional use I expect for them. The only drawback is that they require C-spanners to tighten the collets (each requires a different size of C-spanner, or a single multi-size one which fits both) to tighten the collets on the extensions. These are not supplied, and may not be in many woodworkers' toolkits, necessitating an additional purchase.

Router collet extension has a high build quality then only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it doesn't come with the spanner to tighten it. Would be nice if it came with one or offered one separately.
