Product Details
This premium router circle jig will allow you to rout circles from 20mm to 690mm in diameter with ease and accuracy. The circle compass is CNC machined from solid phenolic to allow for a smooth, no-mar passage over the workpiece. You simply drill a 6mm diameter hole with the supplied drill bit and insert the round lug that is attached to the aluminium sliding arm. You then adjust and lock off the sliding arm to your desired dimension.
The circle compass can be used with all leading brands of router simply by drilling the base to suit. To mount the router, you insert the circular alignment block and locating pin into the circle compass. Position the router's collet over the pin, which will ensure the router is central and then mark the position to drill your holes to attach your router. The circle compass comes ready to use with phenolic base, aluminium sliding arm, 6mm drill bit and depth stop and router alignment block. Excellent for smooth, controlled routing of circles. ©

This is a nice bit of kit. It's a neat design as the jig is very compact considering the range of sizes of circles it is capable of cutting. I was surprised by the rigidity of phenolic, having never handled it before, and the quality of finishing all round is superb.
BUT, Rutland's have missed a trick here big time. I am lucky enough to be the owner of a FS14000 which comes with a dia30mm guide (but this is applicable to any dia30mm guide). The nylon guide bush us 30mm dead, but the hole in the phenolic is oversized. So there is a sloppy fit between the bushing and the phenolic. If only that hole were a dead 30mm then it would fit a guide bush and negate the need for fixings whilst also eliminating tangled cables. On the FS1400 the guide bush clips on in seconds so would make mounting and demounting from this jig so much more efficient. So it's 4 stars for now. The hack is 3x wraps of blue tape for a dead snug fit - 1 length cut into 3 narrow strips - still quicker than messing about with all those machine screws but not nearly as quick as a proper fit in the first place.
I picked my guide up on offer at 19.99 which feels like good value to me. Just a shame about what I feel to be a missed opportunity.

Excellent little piece of kit that has helped me cut out some circular boards for table tops. Nice to have all the drill bit and attachments to centre the jig. No instructions to assist with the attachment to my router (Makita) but straight forward enough once I managed to countersink the screws to the right depth. Saves a great deal of time trying to cut with a jigsaw and a lot cleaner finish!

As other reviewers have said there are no instructions but it's fairly easy to work out. I am using it with a Trend T4 router and I only managed to get 2 of the 4 screws into the base plate. Another 5mm and I've had got all 4 in but it seems to work OK so far.

A well made and versatile piece of kit. However, the base was too small to accommodate my router without adding extra mounting screws to the router base and though it is relatively intuitive to set up some Instructions for Use would have been really helpful.

Nice bit of kit, but my only gripe is the base of the jig should be made larger as it will just about fit the base plate of the Rutlands Router with the counter sunk holes right on the edge of the jig base plate if it was made another 4mm in diameter it would be fine also no screws supplied in order to fix it to the router base.

I'd recommend this product highly if you want to be able to route perfect circles with almost no setup. I bought it for a specific job but I know I will find a use for this in other projects.

Build quality is superb, I really like the material the base is made out of, it was very easy and intuitive to drill into to secure my router.

Any downsides ? Well just a little niggle, it requires a 6mm hole drilling in the centre of the circle and although it didn't spoil what I was working on I can imagine it might do in future. A smaller diameter peg or even interchangeable sized pegs ?, but apart from that I cant fault it.
