Product Details
This door lock morticer is ideal for home or trade applications, it is guaranteed to save time and is intuitively easy to use. For use on softwood, hardwood and fire doors from 30mm to 85mm thick. It has been designed to cut mortices for door locks and will also cut a recess for the lock's faceplate. Produce mortices up to 100mm deep and cut the recess for a face plate to sit in with this one tool.
After initial assembly simply choose the correct sized cutter for your lock, mark the position of the lock body and face plate on the door and clamp the jig to your door over where you require the mortice. Make sure the vertical and horizontal depth stops are positioned correctly and the guide bush runs smoothly up and down the shafts. There is a handle at the base of the morticer which is used to reposition one of the bars if the guide bush does not run smoothly. Fix your drill to the shaft and move the guide bush up and down to drill your mortice. The jig is supplied with 3 sizes of cutters to accommodate the most popular lock widths. The lock morticer can also be used to bore out holes in the face of the door and is supplied with a protective cap to allow you to do this without marking your door.
All industry standard power drills are compatible providing they have a 13mm chuck and can reach speeds of between 2,000 and 3,000rpm. Constructed from steel and aluminium the jig is sturdy and durable, the clamping jaws have rubber faces which will not mark your door. Supplied in a blow moulded carry case which contains the jig, 3 different sizes of cutter, measuring rule and 2 x adjusting wrenches. ©

Very solidly made. Good and versatile size. Useful for mortices as well as recesses. Handy to be able to use with a power drill, though could also use a small router body.

I have been using this lock jig for just over a week now and overall i am pleased. I would strongly suggest setting it up and practicing on an old door first. The knack is to make sure the main head slides up and down smoothly on the bars. To do this you need to slacken off the long black locking lever which allows you to move the left hand bar. Once adjusted to be parallel with the right hand bar you can slide the main head easily up the bars. If you don't the head jams. The bits are decent and worked well on a fire door. Practice makes perfect with this tool. I would definitely recommend as once you've got the technique it works really well.

Works very well at providing an accurate guide for drilling out doors. The drill bits are good quality but require a decent powered drill to work cleanly, a handy bit of kit

Fantastic product, one of the very few I have seen that actually allow you to work on the door whilst it is mounted, rather than being clamped and routed from the floor. If you're working with doors regularly then trust me your back will thank you

takes a little bit of initial set up but after that its really easy to use and takes all the guess work out of making mortices.
