Product Details
This premium router sign making kit includes everything that you need, except the router, to make beautiful signs. You can make horizontal, vertical and curved signs using either letters or numbers, or you can use a combination of both, with no limitation to the length or depth of the sign. The kit comes with six templates, four with letters (A - Z) and two with numbers (1 - 9), a phenolic router base plate with self-centering tool, 13mm solid brass guide bush and an 8.5mm TCT router bit with 1/4" shank. The templates are made from 6mm deep impact resistant polycarbonate that absorbs vibration and will not flex or bow during use. The letters and numbers measure 70mm in height and are in the clean, modern Arial Rounded bold font which features rounded corners to allow the guide bush to move smoothly around the inner edges.
If your router does not directly accept the 13mm brass guide bush then you need to fit the phenolic base plate to your router. This is simply a case of using the self-centering tool to centre the base to your router and then drilling the base to match the screw holes in your router. To make your sign, you mark out in pencil your wording, spacing the letters accordingly. Once you are happy with the pencil layout, set the plunge depth of your router to 2mm, securely clamp the template to your workpiece and rout out the first letter in a clockwise direction, making sure the guide bush remains in contact with the template for the duration of the pass. Once the first letter is complete, remove the clamps and place the required template over the next sketched letter.
The tungsten carbide tipped router bit is from our premium series and will allow you to rout hardwoods, softwoods and composite woods leaving a feather free, professional finish. This complete sign making kit comes highly recommended and will soon have you making beautiful house, name or number signs for family, friends or customers. The premium sign making kit has a lifetime warranty and in the event that it fails due to a material or manufacturing defect the component will be replaced free of charge. ©

Very pleased with this sign making kit, been looking for some time and wondering if I should buy, and when it came on special at 50% discount I had to jump in, and very pleased I did as its a quality bit of add kit for the router.

I was concerned that this would be fiddly to use but turns out to be easy and quite fun. Remember when you first got hold of one of the old Dymo tape lettering machines? Well...

Great piece of kit and it is exactly what I was looking for. Well made and excellent quality. I have used Rutlands on several occasions and would highly recommend them to anyone.

I was going to buy the sign stencils as a stand-alone item but there was an offer on for the router too so I got both - a bargain! Great quality on all items, as expected - clear instructions, good materials and build quality - not yet used the router but I'm sure, from just looking at it, that it will perform well and last a long time.
Philip Flynn
Top quality materials, great font, everything you expected when buying from Rutlands

Kit arrived in the promised timescale, well packaged and looking like a very good quality product. I look forward to trialling and using the kit to enhance my project. I will add to my review once used.

this kit is no exception, but set up very carefully and used patiently it gives excellent results

Have used other jigs but tempted by this one being on offer. Very smart lettering and as long as careful with set up good output. The guide bush a good fit I used on a Trend T3 with the supplied base as the bush is US Style and Trend adaptor no longer sold. I made one silly error on first sign as was doing upside down to use the clamps and aligned the R leg the wrong point. went right not left so to speak. So learned quickly. Also only needs a shallow pass for a clean cut, 2mm I did one pass then a second with an extra mm. Template well made good size and smart. I filled in the letters sanded the top and varnished. easy 5 stars. i also attached a thin batten to hold the template so letters aligned fully.

Initially I thought that the Kit appeared expensive. However, upon receipt I soon realised that the quality of the product was first class and it was in fact excellent value for money. After 15 minutes practice, and with a little bit of care, I managed to make a professional looking sign at my first attempt. The "right" tools and equipment certainly help you to do a great job and make your task a real pleasure.

Take your time to set these up with an accurate guide line, and these templates will make the perfect signs. The router bit cut cleanly in oak block and after a couple of trial runs I was soon making beautiful professional looking signs. BRILLIANT!!

This is my first letter jig. First impressions are good; as others have said, time spent in preparation and layout is time well spent. For a v2 of this product then I think the templates could be improved by being longer, in other words giving you some 'blank area' to clamp to at each end. A 10mm spacer would not go a miss. Finally, I think the phenolic router base would be better in clear plastic so you can see as well as feel the guide bush. All in all a good set and with a little refinement I would give this five stars.

I bought this sign making jig to help relieve the boredom during lockdown. I have had it for two full days and I am impressed, not only with the kit but with my first sign. The principle is so simple. Mark out your house name using the template, clamp the template to the wood and then route out before moving on to the next letter. There is no fiddly set up, just make sure the wood is clamped really tight . I wish Rutlands had an image upload facility so that I could show off my new found skill. Great fun to use and while away the hours.

With a router and a few clamps the limit of this kit is your own imagination.
I have other sign making kits but have been frustrated by the lack of versatility.
This kit has exceeded expectations and has allowed me to create items way beyond what was previously possible including using an old circular table top with the house name going around the edge and a 4' vertical sign with house number and street name allowing it to be fixed to the gate post.
Using pencil lines to both position the spacing and outlines of the lettering is crucial to obtaining a good finish along with clamping the templates securely to the workpiece.

Wow, what a product! A complete kit, all I needed to make a professional looking sign was my own router and a couple of clamps. As with any project I feel the best results are always produced when time is taken with the setup. If you invest the time to properly draw out the letters and lay them out with equal spacing you will reap the rewards. I would recommend practicing using scrap materials to get used to the templates.
