super Qualität!-Empfehlung an jeden Holzbearbeiter !

Robert Jones

Just like an earlier reviewer, I had lusted after this lift combo for quite some time. And then there it was - on offer - and I succumbed. Opening the box(es) the very next day was a real treat; everything screamed quality - even the packaging materials! (And who would have expected the spanners to tighten the collet to be chromed and sleeved?)
The lift mechanism itself was hefty and robust and later fitting it into my newly made router table top was surprisingly straightforward after watching the video on YouTube. I have yet to try out the motor - still trying to sort out legs for the table top - but I look forward to many happy hours/days/months putting the new setup through its paces.
Many thanks (yet again) Rutlands.

Kevin Young

Have watched this for a while now, and when it was on offer I couldn't resist. Once arrived I couldn't wait to open the boxes. The quality is second to none everything is perfect. Having installed in my router table the next day, which went very smoothly, I couldn't wait to start machining my first project. The lift is smooth as silk the motor is quite and powerful.
I thoroughly recommend this to any keen woodworker

Looks and feels the part, I have not used them yet but initial impressions are good.

Looks an excellent piece of kit. Comprehensive instructions, quality feel about the whole set up. Was looking at an Axminster setup and the USA ones, but 1. They were double the price and 2 the Axminster version uses chain links which can get clogged. Motor is very smooth and quiet. Very pleased. I got a top quality, heavy duty set up for less than the cost of a 1/4 inch router and flimsier branded setup.

I managed without the lift and motor for some time before deciding to buy this one.

The table top was a straight swap for my original top because I was using a Rutlands Router Table which I found very versatile but my home made lift was very inaccurate.
Oh how my routing has changed, the lift is 1000% better than trying to raise and lower my triton router which needed a clamp on the switch to keep it running and a lift mechanism which worked to a degree but needed constant attention.

The motor is much more secure and has a good speed range with a lot of strength.
If you are thinking about a new lift and motor you should take the plunge (pardon the pun) and get one as soon as possible.

An excellent piece of kit which is highly recommended by me.

This in my opinion is an excellent piece of kit. I have recently installed the lift & router into my shop made table and it works a treat, the motor is powerful, quiet and collet change a simple two spanner action. The lift is smooth and precise, this is well made using good engineering principles. From ordering to delivery was quick received within a couple of days and well packaged. One improvement would be to have some graduation on the motor speed control as is just a variable wheel running from low to high so dialling in exact speed is not that easily achieved. Overall a decent lift and motor and gets a recommendation from me.

Excellent service ordered afternoon one day and delivered following day early afternoon. Extremely well packaged. I plan to install this router motor and lift in a new 8ft by 4ft workbench which I am building. I cannot yet vouch for performance, but on unboxing I can say this lift and motor exude quality with beautiful machining and quality components. Snagged a great deal as well . So far I could not be more pleased.

I've been a time served professional woodworker for 49 years I've had various router combinations in my time but now I've finally found what I've been looking for. I purchased this router lift and router combination after messing about under my router table with the previous set up getting frustrated trying to make fine adjustments as I now suffer from Arthritis in my fingers WOW what a pleasant surprise I got it arrived the next day well packaged in 2 boxes. When I fitted this routerlift and router into my table. It fitted in where my old one came out with just a few minor adjustments the build quality is excellent the router is more than powerful enough for any task, the adjustment is excellent the only downside is you need to be able to blow out the socket where the handle fits as this can soon fill up with sawdust but others wise an excellent piece of equipment, cutter change is easy as the router rizes right up so that the collet is above the router table two spanners are provided for bit changing but don't over tighten or you'll struggle to release later. I wish I'd bought this years ago. A first class product from a first class company "well done Rutland you have a excellent product here"

Owen Crawford

I took a chance and ordered a used demo model to save a few pound. So glad I did the quality of this lift is brilliant, really heavyly built, rise and fall is so smooth a very well engineered piece of equipment.

Josh Willingham

I was just about to order another brand of lift when Rutlands launched this model. The write up is impressive and the price is very sensible so I bit the bullet and ordered lift and motor package, on the basis I would return it if it did not live up to the review. It arrived within 18 hours after placing the order and I can assure you it is not going back, it's excellent. Beautifully finished castings and machined columns, really smooth rise movement and no wobble or vibration. I tested it out with a lock mitre bit on some left over tulip wood and the cut was really clean. Its so easy to change bits and so easy to set the routing depth. Routing just got a lot more fun.

Duncan Roades

Delighted with this lift. The rise and fall motion is very smooth and when you have set your height the bit does not creep back down when routing. Design is well thought through. There are two adjustment features , one to ensure the router collet sits dead centre in the table hole insert and the other allows you to control the resonance on the main rise and fall spindle, to eliminate any play caused by wear. Build quality is superb and better than I expected. Comes with all the fittings you need to mount in a home made router table. First class and highly recommended.

My new router lift arrived yesterday along with the variable speed motor. My first impressions were very positive, as the lift was packed in a very strong outer box with a 50mm thick foam liner for protection. The lift is 90% pre-assembled. You simply have to insert three machine screws and slide in the motor and lock in place using the crank handle. I already had the Rutlands floor standing router table, fitted with an insert plate rather than the lift. I removed the insert plate and replaced it with the the lift and motor. The fit was excellent and i levelled the top plate to the table with the supplied grub screws and locked the plate in position with the four corner screws. It took about 20 minutes to get the table top perfectly level with the plate of the lift. Raising and lowering the lift is first class. You insert the crank handle that has a 15mm socket on the end, rotate and the the lift moves up or down. My first test was with a 1/2" shank straight bit. I set the bit height to remove 10mm and then ran a 2 metre length of soft wood through the bit to create a groove. The cutting height remain the same from start to finish. I have only had the lift for two days and so far my overall impression is i could not be happier. It is really well made, there is no vibration through the bit and you can change your bits easily from above the table as the router motor collet sits prod of the table top so you can easily get the spanners on.

T Harper

I will keep this simple. If like me, you enjoy routing and want to enjoy routing even more buy this lift and motor. Brilliant.

Just finished assembly of the R15 Router Lift and Motor. Overall my first impressions are very positive. Build quality appears very good.
Lift was delivered in very sturdy packaging. After about 20 minutes i had the router and lift dropped into my router table. I particularly like that they included a flush trim bit to help build your own router table for this lift to drop into.
I am unable to speak to how this lift and motor will hold up over time but my initial few few cuts with the machine were very smooth.
I only have 2 small gripes about this lift and motor. The first is that the zero clearance insert rings are pressed into the plate instead of attached via a bayonet fitting. This means that you will need to reach underneath the table to change out the insert ring. This is only a minor inconvenience but you may want to factor this in if you are building your own table.
Secondly, and this is even a smaller gripe but i would prefer if the router motor wasn't all black. As the speed control is on the head of the motor it can be hard to find if enclosed in a cabinet below your table. I may end up painting the speed control dial to make it easier to locate.
I don't think either of the above issues warrants removal of a star. This is definitely the best router lift i have ever owned

My R15 lift and motor arrived at 9:30 despite being ordered the day before, after 16:00. It was extremely well packaged, arriving in two boxes. Upon unpacking I could immediately see that both the lift and the motor were quality items, but I held back any final judgement until I could fit it into a home-made table and actually use it.
Well, that day finally came. The instructions are complete, clear, concise and have the Rutlands name all over them. Everything, and I mean everything, went together just as the instructions said they would. All hardware is supplied. Allen keys, ball ended no less, are all supplied. The sockets for fixing in place the motor and for the rise and fall of the lift fit onto a heavy duty crank that has a quality feel to it.
A template is supplied for fitting the 10mm plate into a home made table. Also a 1/4" shank top and bottom bearing straight cutter. I didn't use the latter as my table was a bit too thick at 38mm. I used my own bottom bearing cutter from underneath the table and the results were perfect. The plate fits the recess with no slop, even at the rounded corners. There is no need to rebate the aperture due to the cleverly designed corner brackets that screw to the underneath of the table. Whilst three different lengths of M6 levelling grub screws are supplied, at my table thickness these were too short. I bought some at 30mm from eBay. I could have rebated the corners underneath the table instead. With the eight levelling screws doing their stuff, it's an easy job to get the plate just where it needs to be.
Any worries about the motor were dispelled when I switched it on. It does not sound dissimilar to my Elu MOF177E, although that is getting on a bit now! The 1/4" and 1/2" collets supplied with the motor appear to be of extremely good quality and fit. The one criticism I do have with the motor is the lack of spindle lock. Installing and removing cutters is done from above the table, but requires the use of two (supplied, plastic coated for comfort), spanners. This is a recipe for taking divots out of the aluminium top, as despite my being extremely careful, the spanner nearly always slips. I have on order a no-spanner chuck.
So, in use: Early days I know, but I have no complaints. The build and subsequent limited use has been consistent with my first "out of the box" impressions, it being a high quality item - and at the current sale price of £399 for the lift and the motor, it is a bargain I think.

Hugh Gladden

As is invariably the case with Rutlands, this item arrived very quickly and was well-packed. The lift seems to me to be well engineered and solidly constructed, giving an overall impression of quality and value for money. It is also as far as I can see, the only one on the market that comes not only with a template for making the hole in the table-top (and a first-class template it is), but also a flush trim cutter to clean up the hole after you've cut it. I was really impressed up to this point. However, there are two aspects that I think could be considerably better.

First, and perhaps most significant, is the method for attaching the lift and motor to the underside of the router table. As supplied, this takes the form of four plastic supports (which I suggest should really be metal) each one secured by three light-weight and I think poor quality 'self-tapping' screws (which were roundhead and going into recesses quite clearly made for countersunk fixings). Given that the complete assembly weighs just over 11 kgs, and that I was screwing into a particle board table top, I decided that this arrangement was less than satisfactory. Instead, I drilled through the top and substituted M6 machine screws, secured with locking nuts and washers. I am now confident of the strength of the fixings, but I shall keep and eye on the plastic brackets for signs of failure, and if necessary make aluminium replacements. I got the impression that the fixing arrangement was not provided by whoever makes the lift - there seems to be a mismatch in the quality.

The second issue for me is the speed adjustment on the motor. This is by means of a rotating wheel, giving a step-less range from 'Hi' to 'Lo'. The accompanying leaflet provides a chart that suggests a series of speed equivalents to 'High', 'Medium' and 'Slow', but this means basically guessing where to set the dial. In my opinion, it should be stepped, with each step corresponding to a set motor speed. The instructions with the lift suggest among other safety recommendations, that one should be very careful when setting speeds, because excess speeds can be dangerous - but then the speed control is effectively a vague guessing game, with the inevitable potential for errors to be made.

So, only four stars in my opinion, which is a great shame because with a better more robust fixing arrangement and a proper speed control, this would a superb piece of kit. I'm not sorry I bought it, because it is basically very good, but I'm disappointed that it could have been so much better had a bit more care been taken with the details.

Michael Favager

Bought the Router Lift just over a week ago and received it really quickly which was great. Made a brand new router table from some 60mm white kitchen top. The guide to cut the hole worked well with some adjustments. Definitely need additional support for the router to ensure a square cut, I use some ply scarps which were about the same thickness as the guide. However, 60mm worktop is too thick and none of the adjustment screws were long enough, overcame this problem by 3D printing additional spacers for each support corner. After this installation was a breeze and the lift levelled and and operates very smoothly. A few adjustments on the resonance screw and the lift holds position extremely well, not sure if this technique will remain secure for any length of time though. The ability to lock the the lift in position is a worry and was not made clear in the description prior to purchase.,probably a deliberate omission rather than explaining the method of maintaining the height.
In Use: Started with a few 6.25 mm round over bit.... worked well. No the downside, the collet was so difficult to undo to change the bit that excessive (very excessive) force is required to undo. When the collet finally relaxed its grip too suddenly the provided spanners grounched the edge of the lift opening and lifted a bur, this then trashed the next two pieces of wood pass over the opening... very expensive wood too. Had to dress out the burr. I have not found out why the collet should grip the bit so tightly during use, however, this will be a problem going forward. So only 3 stars as the collets are part of the lift. I will have to look for some after market collets of better quality, shame really as the lift seem quite good at that price point. I did want the ability to lock the lift but this would have cost another £100-£150 for Jessum or Incra Lifts.

One other small issue is the adjustment nut forms quite a large hole in the lift top... great for collecting dust and other small items.
