Product Details
This 1/2" router has been specifically designed for both freehand use and for mounting in a router table. The router features a micro-fine height adjuster handle which allows you to adjust and precision set the cutter height with ease, when upright or inverted in a table. It is also excellent for fine height adjustment when working with dovetail jigs. One full revolution of the micro-fine adjuster handle raises or lowers the cutter height by 1mm and three position turret depth stop allows for precise repetitive routing depths.
The powerful 2200 watt motor features variable speed control from 9000 to 22000rpm and has constant speed under load ensuring a fine finish to the workpiece on hardwoods, softwoods and composite woods. The motor has in built soft start on the slowest speed to eliminate sudden movement of the router on start up. A spindle lock combined with a hex collet nut results in fast and easy bit changes.
The base of the router is fitted with a phenolic glide plate measuring 160mm in diameter which ensures excellent stability and smooth passage in free hand mode and features a wide 65mm aperture for accepting large cutters when in table mode. The phenolic plate can be removed from the base to reveal locating holes for mounting to a router table insert plate. Industry standard guide bushes are accommodated for via two easy to access set screws. The all steel side fence also features an adjustment knob that allows for micro-adjustment to set the routing width.
Weighing 5.8kg the router has two large ergonomic handles combined with a conveniently positioned on/off switch which make this a very comfortable router to operate. The router is supplied with a 35mm diameter dust port, 1/2" collet, 3/8" and 1/4" collet sleeves, collet spanner, adjustable steel side fence, 16mm guide bush, 12.7mm TCT router bit, clear bit guard and a bearing edge guide. This is a powerful 1/2" collet router designed for both freehand and table use that has the advantage of a micro-fine height adjuster which ensures fast and precise routing. Highly recommended. ©

Bought this for some kitchen worktops I was fitting, love the soft start, copes with 1/2" cutter very well. The light was a bonus I didn't realise it had, but it's not much use when the guide bushes are in. The micro adjuster keeps winding itself down when the motor is on, this can be frustrating.

As usual a Rutland product that works well for the hobbyist / professional at a reasonable price. I must admit i bought mine as a factory second, which made it a great bargain. I also bought a set of bits. A bit of an impulse buy so the marketing works. Now I'm off to find a project to build with it.

I'll start this review with a caveat. My only experience with routers is with my trusty Swiss made Elu mof 96e which I bought over 25 years ago and is still going strong. But I needed a more powerful 1/2 inch router and after receiving the black Friday promotion and reading the reviews went for the Rutland's machine.
First the not so good. It does feel a bit plasticy and the finish on the fence does need a bit of fettling. But I may be being a bit harsh as I'm comparing it to an Elu.
However, I was really impressed with the motor, very smooth, powerful and relatively quiet. I've only tested it on a couple of test pieces but was very impressed.
Overall, for the money a very good machine just lacks the refinement of top quality pro stuff, but more than adequate for my needs.
I would happily recommend.

Nice powerful, smooth, router. Great shape handles allow confident easy handling. The fine height adjustment is a great useful standard feature that is an optional extra, I believe, on some other, more expensive, brands. Straight cutting bit included and supplied with collets to accept most router shank diameters. I could not be more pleased as I bought mine at less than half price, as a factory second, but I have not found any evidence as to why it is a factory second and I have looked long and hard. My collection of Rutlands bargains continues to grow, great when on a limited budget.

I have attached this to my router table and find it to be most effective. The micro-adjuster makes height adjustment so much easier. It certainly has handled all my work so far with great ease.

Great router. Powerful motor. I bought it to use for a surface planing jug but with all the accessories that came with it, it looks like I will find other uses for it as well. Highly recommended. Thank you.

For the price, this thing is a amazing. Its powerful, quiet and easy to use.

I've only used this router a couple of times but I'm very impressed. I was looking for 1/2" router and so many of them are 1/4" or very pricy. This is a great price and pretty powerful. Very pleased.

I was looking to get a router which would make life easier when working with a router table and saw this and thought lets give this machine a try. This router has a fine height adjuster which is great addition when using upside down in a router table. It has plenty of power I used this to rebate so oak door thresholds done the task easily. I am very pleased with this machine. A bonus is you receive different size collets and a spare set of brushes too. Delivery was first class next day

Brilliant bit of kit, nice weight to it and feels like it will last. Main use will be upside down in a table when I get round to getting one. Always buy my woodworking needs feom Rutlands. Highly recommend.

I would highly recommend this router it is powerful ,accurate and very good value for money. The delivery was as promised well done Rutlands.

I have used this router with the sign making kit and it is absolutely brilliant. Very powerful, and great for routing straight edges using a straight edge template too, (I used MDF factory edge, worked a treat), I did find the fence rods were a bit fiddly to get in first time, but got there in the end. My first 1/2 inch router, a definite must have tool in the shop.

I'm an absolute beginner with routing and did lots of research before I finally settled on this one. I'm very impressed with it so far, it's smooth and quiet, but I don't have anything really to compare it with. Nonetheless it does a great job and I would really recommend it. There's one niggle that I have, but this may be down to my inexperience. If I plunge the router just a little too hard it pushes the depth stop rod upwards, which increases the depth of the cut, not good. I've solved the problem by fitting a nut on the bottom of the rod which prevents it from moving. I'm sure a seasoned user wouldn't have this problem. I have found it to be a little heavy for some of the more delicate work that I want to do so I'm waiting for the quarter inch routers to be back in stock and then I'll buy one of those as well. I wonder if they've been stuck in the Suez Canal?! But well deserving of 5 stars and the service from Rutlands is first class.

Great service from Rutland's delivered on the day promised.
Excellent product for £100.
I am only going to use it with a table so can't comment on all the attachments for hand use.
It is worth taking your time setting up because once installed properly it is an excellent piece of kit. The height adjustment is perfect, make sure you position the router on the table so as to get easy access to the adjusting knob.
To align the centre of the router spindle with the centre hole of the table insert I turned in wood a stepped insert to fit in the centre hole of the table insert and the centre hole of the routers plastic base which you have to remove anyway. Position the router plastic base on the table insert plate aligning using the turned insert, make sure it is the preferred orientation then use the fixing holes on the plastic base as a template to mark the hole on the table insert. Drill and counter sink the holes and fix the router to the insert plate.

Fantastic piece of precision equipment that you wouldn't even know was on when using. The power is amazing. For instance I used it for rabbeting today for 3 hours and I didnt feel any resistance or vibration.
Best buy of the year for me, will be using it daily! This is a game changer for the occassional user who wants to up their game.

This is vastly superior to the one it replaces. It is very smooth and, powerful though it is, it is very easy to handle. The depth and fence adjustments are very precise, sound, and easy to use. A joy in every way.

I recently brought this router, Looks like a really good piece of kit. It says its ideal to fit into the router table I brought last week from Rutlands. However its too big to fit into the opening on the table !!.
Could be a failure on my part, But just be aware that you need to check this out before parting with your money
Other than that, I have always been very happy with everything I've brought from Rutands.

It's been many years since I bought my last router and wow how they have progressed. Love the slow start and the micro adjustment plus the quality and of course the price. Excellent bit of kit, smooth, quiet and powerful. I only hope I can do it justice.
Just need to look around the workshop now to see what else I need to update. Great stuff Rutlands - as always.

Bought this router for mounting in a table. It's a solid tool but has some drawbacks. I used it first for hand routing and when I mounted the dust hose into the clear plastics port, the port split along the moulding lines so needed repair with some insulating tape. What I find the biggets drawback is the lack of a quick-release on the plunger mechanism. Winding the fine tune knob to move the router up and down is slow and time consuming. Otherwise it's a well-built, solid tool.
Michael Taylor
Blimey! I have to say I was shocked at the quality of this router for the price! Very solid tool, weighty and of really good build quality. Its bigger than it appears in the photos. I bought it for my router table which currently has a Trend T-Tech Router 2200 Watt motor fitted but without the fine adjust. I have to recommend this tool and well done Rutlands!
James Tickhill
Love the fine height adjustment handle as it makes setting the bit depth so fast and simple. It's bigger than it looks in the photograph which isn't a problem as the motor is very smooth. I had bought it for mounting in my router table however I may now buy a second one for free hand routing. Nice little touch is that it comes with a spare set of carbon brushes. 10 out of 10 for the price.
Trevor Garcia
Really really good router for less than £100. Rutlands have really excelled with this, as soon as it is out of the box you can feel the quality, the power it generates is also very good. It is comparable to another well known brand of router that I own but almost a quarter of the price. The steel fence will come in useful and looks to be well made.
Robert Caruthers
I bought this router to use specifically in my router table. What drew me to this router was the fine height adjustment handle. My router table is a floor standing unit with open sides so with this router i can easily access the handle to control the cutting depth of the bit. I previously compromised with my old Elu 177 router which meant unbolting and setting up when moving from table to hand use. Now this new router is permanently mounted in the table. I have used the router once so far with a raised field bit and it performed very well. Its a big router so you need to use all three holes in the base to ensure it is held firmly. I'm knocking one star off as Rutlands don't yet offer additional longer screws for the table. My table has a 5mm thick plate and the screws that come with the router only have 10mm of thread. They have worked so far but i'm going to get some longer ones as soon as RutlandS gets stock. Overall great value router and lovely fine height control.
