This 18v brushless cordless router provides the power of a corded router with the convenience of a cordless tool and is supplied with 3 bases: a trimming base, a tilting base and an offset base. Having no power cables to contend with and without the need for an electricity supply, you can route with greater freedom and confidence. The long lasting 4Ah Li-ion 18v battery delivers high levels of torque allowing you to route hardwood, softwood and composite wood including MDF, plywood and chipboard, just as you would with a corded router.
The motor has six stage, variable speed control from 10,000 rpm to 30,000 rpm and features electronic constant speed control which provides constant rotation speed regardless of load conditions. The soft-start function minimises start up shock and allows the router to start in a controlled and smooth manner. By pressing the lock/unlock button the router goes into standby mode and thereafter to start the router you press the start/stop button. Both the 18v Li-ion battery and the fast charger have a series of indicator lights to show the level of charge at any moment in time.
The tough main body and router base are CNC machined from strong aluminium die castings, offering superior rigidity and strength to withstand the most demanding of tasks. This aluminium construction also offers a lighter weight with the entire unit weighing under 2kg for more comfortable use and more precise control when routing by hand. The two large handles on the base feature a soft rubberised grip, ergonomically designed for comfort and control. On the base of the router is an anti-friction, non-marring plastic sub base to ensure a smooth sliding movement over the workpiece. The base of the router accepts industry standard guide bushes (R5061) to allow for working with dovetail, worktop, lock and hinge jigs.
The effortlessly smooth plunge mechanism gives you complete control during plunge cuts or whilst setting the height of your router bit. A three turret depth stop allows you to precisely control plunge depths and the base features a simple to use locking system when the height needs to be fixed. Took me a little while to acclimatise myself with router but I soon got used to it and was surprised by how powerful this tool is.
I made the mistake of buying basic kit, I would strongly recommend getting the most comprehensive available as it's an absolute bargain.
I've only done some rebates in oak sofar but it flew through the work like a knife in butter.

Bought this a while ago & extremely pleased. An experienced carpenter friend is helping em learn how to use this safely (he had to make the actual purchase & I paid him back, as for some reason the Rutlands site did not like me using Safari on my iMac & messed up the card payment process & at the time I did not have PayPal so that was a pain). This came with the brass follower kit & the expert opinion from the man who knows these things, is that this is a damned good buy for the money. Using it for a guitar build & it is doing exactly what I need.

I already had the Rutland corded 1/4" version a job requiring a lot of trimming work so indulged in this to get the offset and trimming bases.
Oh my word!!! Previous reviewers were not wrong. this is a superb piece of kit. The corded 1/2" and 1/4" are relegated to the workshop only because this seems to cope with everything you can throw at it.

I wanted to be free from the wires, and this provided me with the solution. Great bit of kit, the fact it comes with a number of base's just gives it great versatility. It is well built and solid. I would put it up there with the best branded equivalent.

Firstly the order and delivery was perfect. The packaging was very good. The main body with the motor was easy to operate and to change from this configuration to the various alternatives. Noise level was low, I still have to check battery life between charges.

Nice smooth plunge action. Whisper quiet. Well balanced. Great safety system as well - you have to press a button to switch the battery on and then press the button next to it to start the router. Prevents risk of any accidental start up. Delighted with the router.

Brilliant for routing out when fritting hinges and locks. Nice compact body gives you excellent visibility. Base accepts all of my existing guide bushes so i can use my old hinge and lock jigs without buying extras. Hung 8 doors and battery still going.

Waited some time for this to be released and I am not disappointed. Took it for a test run last night and it is very smooth and quiet, the two handed base is great for tough work and adds extra stability. Have recommended to my fellow woodworkers.

Not used mine much yet but it seems to be up to the usual Rutlands standard. It is infinitely better than a corded version, it can be used anywhere in my workshop or outside and the battery has such a long life I don't think I will ever run out of charge mid project. Super smooth running with virtually no vibration, it is also so quiet compared to my coreded router. Soft start and variable speed are useful features.

Great cordless router and very quiet compared to my old corded Elu. It is really well balanced, with little vibration, so much so that you can sit it on the bench and it does not 'walk away'. Used with a 12mm straight plunge bit on tulip and it routed over 24 feet and the battery indicator still showed full charge. Just love the freedom of not having to worry about cutting and moving cables. Excellent router

So much easier than my old Trend T3 and bigger Triton and DeWalt routers. The bases also very easy to use once get set up properly. Usual Rutlands exceptional delivery and value for money especially in the price drop. Only niggle was the dust attachment screw a bit of a faff as thread not clean but once sorted all ok. Great addition to my workshop. Quiet in use and soft start so far done all asked of it. Will be a cracking bit of kit for loose tenon routing / peanut joints without the cords.
