Product Details
This set features the two most popular Japanese flush cutting saws, Kataba (R1010) and Ryoba (R1009).
Japanese Saws
Made exclusively for Rutlands® by Gyokucho, the world's leading Japanese saw manufacturer, these saws have one stand out difference from their western counterparts; they cut on the pull stroke rather than the push stroke. The action of pulling the saw keeps the blade in tension through the cut, which allows the blade to be thinner and lighter, for a much smoother and faster cut. The narrow kerf means that the saw removes less material and requires far less energy to achieve a super-fine, tear free and clean cut. Each tooth is impulse hardened for superior sharpness and to stay sharper for longer. The teeth are symmetrically set to ensure straight, drift free sawing and the blades are electronically surface plated to minimise friction and prevent resin build up and corrosion.
Ryoba
This compact Japanese saw features two different tooth settings, both for cutting across and diagonal to the grain. The finer 1.0mm pitch is used when working on hardwoods and the 1.3mm pitch is for use with softwoods. The 125mm long, ultra thin 0.3mm blade is extremely flexible and is excellent for super fine cuts in tight spaces and for trimming off dowels and other projecting parts flush to the surface. The trapezoidal teeth are sharpened on three edges in an alternating pattern to cleanly slice, rather than tear the wood fibres leaving an extremely clean, smooth finish.
Kataba
This compact Kataba flush cut saw is designed for fine repair cuts, sawing in tight spaces and for trimming dowels and plugs. The saw features unset crosscut teeth for cutting across and diagonal to the grain on hardwood and softwood. The 100mm long, ultra thin 0.3mm blade minimises kerf wastage and is extremely flexible and can bend through 90° to access areas other saws can not reach. The teeth cleanly slice, rather than tear the wood fibres leaving a clean, smooth finish.
Wood Handle
Traditional in style, the blade is mounted on a lightweight wooden handle for fatigue free working for excellent comfort and hold. Made in Miki City, Japan, these premium Japanese saws have lifetime warranty and in the event that they should fail due to a material or manufacturing defect will be replaced free of charge. ©

Delivered very quickly and well packaged. On trying them out on both hard and soft wood found the cut to be smooth and they glide through with ease, even including a repurposed former redwood door, which had been seasoned over many years and was incredibly hard. I can honestly say I have never known a saw to cut so easily, cleanly and with capability of such fine detail. I now know what will be on my Christmas list, the larger versions. Excellent service and fantastic products. Thank you.

Absolutely delighted with both these saws they have been well used already, superb flexibility and an easy and a very fine cut leaving a smooth finish as flush cut saws go these are great and I highly recommend.
Colin Webb
Superbly crafted saws. Easy to use and give a wonderful flush clean cut.

I am very happy with these saws. Very flexible. They leave an excellent finish without sanding. The cotton saw roll should keep them protected.
I may add some oil for protecting the steel to my next Rutlands purchase.

I ordered these on the basis of the good reviews and I have to say I am not disappointed. They a ultra thin and and the sharpest saws I have every used. The finish on the samples of various hardwood I have tried sample cuts, is amazing.
Robert Harris
Great flexible saw cuts clean and smooth without marking the surface. Highly recommended !

I couldn't believe how flexible and sharp these saws are! Making flush cutting perfectly ....
Robert High
I'm making a rocking horse with a lot of compound angles. These are the only handsaws I'm using . They give accuracy I can't get with conventional saws. Clean cut minimal kerf
Robert Eldridge
These blades are incredibly flexible and lie flat on the reference face for flush cuts and produces such a smooth cut, I didn't need to sand afterwards. The teeth didn't even scratch the wood. Simply marvellous!
Mr V Jolley
Once I got over my fascination with how unbelievably flexible these little saws are I used them to trim some oak plugs. What a finish! Excellent value for money.
T Cowie
I really like the double edged saw. The different tooth pitches let me use it on any wood. As has been said before, the blades are impressively flexible.
Dave Winchester
It's true these saws are extremely flexible and leave a great finish with no need for sanding afterwards. Most impressive
