Product Details

This 1400w plunge saw provides a high quality of cut with no splintering or tear out and comes with a 1.4 metre guide rail allowing for long and accurate cuts. Unlike a regular circular saw, this plunge saw can be fed at the start of the material or can be plunged directly into the workpiece to a predetermined depth, making it ideal for sawing sheet material and cutting worktops for sinks and hobs. The plunge mechanism is extremely smooth and features a dual height depth stop. When pressed down, the blade plunges from within the guard into the material, making it inherently safer to use.

The aluminium guide rails are ribbed for strength and are 190mm in width resulting in excellent stability. The rails feature two full length rubber strips to protect the workpiece from damage and increase friction to prevent movement. A third rubber strip on the edge of the rail acts as a splinter guard to ensure a feather free finish. Two micro adjustment dials minimise play between the guide rail and the saw, to ensure the saw glides accurately and smoothly along the rail.

The 165mm TCT blade can be tilted through 45° in 1° increments allowing for 52mm depth of cut at 90° and 37mm at 45°. Both the body and base of the saw are made from precision die castings for strength and resultant accuracy.

This plunge saw comes with 2 x 700mm guide rails, rail connectors and rail clamps. Additional guide rails are available to increase the sawing capacity to 2.8m for the trimming and sawing of large sheets.

This is an excellent fine finish plunge cut saw that we can highly recommend for sawing composite sheets, trimming kitchen and cabinet doors, sawing skirting and architrave and all other general sawing operations. The plunge saw has a 3 year warranty and in the event that it fails due to a material or manufacturing defect the component will be replaced free of charge. ©

I bought this a few weeks ago when it was the Rutlands daily offer at £100, knowing I had a use for it in the near future. Now I have used it I can write a review based on experience.

I've just cut some 30mm thick pitch pine, along the grain. This saw was excellent for the job - square cut out of the box and, with the supplied 24tpi blade, quite a clean cut too. (I did several passes to get through the depth of wood!) The depth-stop adjustment was very useful; I haven't tried an angled cut yet so can't comment on that.
I used clamps to secure the guide track, which did the job well enough though were basic and flexed a bit when tightened up.
I'll need to cut the same material across the grain soon so I'll swap the blade for one with a higher tpi count, hoping for a clean cut with reduced finishing required afterwards.
I did hook up my dust-estractor/vac unit, which dealt with much of the sawdust, and I taped over the 'window' by the blade, but still had quite a bit of debris ejected from the front of the unit. But maybe that's just the nature of circular saws and not really a negative comment on this one!

Why four stars instead of five? The two 700mm lengths of guide track locked together well (and straight), but I'd prefer a longer length without the join. I can see myself buying another brand's longer compatible track at some stage. I also found the instructions relatively basic, though it was fairly easy to work out the adjustments etc.
There was no clear guidance on the need to trim the splinter guard before using the saw on a job, thankfully I was already aware this should be done.

All in all a useful tool that does the job pretty well for a DIYer / hobbyist like me. If I were to make more regular use of the tool or use it in a professional capacity I might have looked at other makes higher up the ££s scale, but for me, at the offer price (or even at the list price), this was definitely well worth buying and I'm sure will get good use.

Excellent value. Can't fault the saw, tracks or track clamps.
The plunge saw has plenty of power and with the supplied blade cuts through 18mm MDF with no problems.
The blade fitted also produces a clean cut, with minimal sanding required.
The tracks are straight and produce an accurate cut, they also fix together perfectly with little effort to align.
The clamps are perhaps on the basic side, but work perfectly fine in holding the tracks to the material being cut securely.
No hesitation in recommending this saw over more expensive alternatives.

Good sturdy construction. Smooth operation. Excellent value on Black Friday.

I always wondered whether a track saw was worth the money (other brands extortionate pricing) seeing as I am only an avid DIY kind of guy, but as I get older shoving large/heavy pieces through a table saw accurately has become a bit of a struggle and less safe of an operation. as always Rutlands came up with a solution to that problem so I dived in and have not regretted it one bit. the saw is accurate, lightweight and smooth to operate. I bought the extra track so I could break down whole sheets and trim doors to fit in their casings, very happy with the product. best buy of the year. one niggle though regarding the extra track is that it came with rods to join the two track in the box together whereas if I need to join all four tracks together I need three joining rods

Paul Keys

No hesitation in giving five stars. Despite the comparatively low price, this is an excellent bit of kit. If you're looking for a plunge saw you can stop now. You've found it.

Great saw and track, bought a year ago and have used with various projects, mainly cutting 18mm plywood and scaffold boards which it handles easily. Depth and angle adjustment are solid and very easy to use. The tighteners that keep it tightly in-line with the track do come a bit loose when its in motion but this is no biggie as it fits the track so well. Great tool!

Paul West

Very good saw backed up by a good customer service quick delivery and good prices. Much needed for the community workshop I am building

David Reason

Great piece of kit, simple easy to use and great value.

Good to have the usual quick delivery, and first impressions are very good. Easy to commission, smooth and reasonably quiet in action, and neatly cut results.

Brought the plunge saw and couldn't be happier great price and amazing quality.Saw runs on the rails like a dream.the saw cuts beautiful and leaves a nice finish.mechanism is smooth and run like a dream.i am new customer to Rutlands but will being using them in the future if this is the standard of there equipment

James Carter

I have been using this saw now for the past two weeks and I am very impressed. I bought the extra 1.4 metre rail guide kit so that I can rip an 8 x 4 sheet in one pass. The plunge mechanism is smooth and the cut is clean. I would definitely buy again.

There are many other plunge saws on the market, but with comparable specifications and performance, the price was unbeatable. Cheap isn't always cheap but with the Rutlands brand etched on it, I knew quality and support was assured. Bought the extra rails to tackle any size cut and was not disappointed with the lengths it could go to.

Great price, performance and assured quality, it was a no brainer, so I took the plunge, pardon the pun.

MARVELOUS!

I'd been fancying a track saw for a while, but they were always too much for my budget. This saw came up on a deal a few months ago, so I took the plunge (forgive the pun). I had a future plan and that day arrived a couple of days ago. I bought the extra tracks - another good idea. I've been cutting 8x4 osb panels and melamine faced chipboard shelves with this saw for the past two weekends.

The saw is easy to use (read the manual), accurate, straight and must have a decent blade as it cuts really clean.
I'm sure pro's will get more out of something more fancy, but for me, as an avid high level DIYer on a budget, but needs trade quality, this is a great machine. This is now my "go to" saw for panel work. I now have a few redundant used circular saws and guide clamps for sale, I just wish I'd bought a track saw like this years ago! I could have saved a few quid (and wrecked less material) along the way.

Next project for this saw is a Paulk style workbench.

3.5 stars out of 5
The positives, the price for the saw and a full set of rails is pretty much hard to beat. You can get good results with a bit of care. I put a new blade in from the off and have had good results in various plywoods. I found the dust extraction good.
The negatives, the tracks don't join totally flush, giving a little bit of resistance when pushing the saw over them. I don't think the edges are 100% square. The adjusters for side to side play can (and usually will) work loose over the length of a cut leading to a bit of play. There doesn't seem to be any way of tightening these further to prevent this. The biggest oversight is the length of the cord, not long enough to reach the length of a sheet!
You get what you pay for, accurate enough for most tasks.

Great Piece of Kit

I have always wanted a plunge saw but with limited budget. The build quality is excellent and the cut is precise. I would definatley recommend this product

Dean Coote

I recently purchased this saw for cutting sheets of shower board. The saw left a flawless finish with a new 80 tooth blade in, zero split out of the delicate laminated edge. The only thing stopping it being a 5 star review is the lack of case for the saw or even just the rails. Brilliant saw for the money, highly recommended.

James Humphries

I have wanted a plunge cut saw for a long time but the prices where out of my reach. When I seen this and looked at the positive reviews. I decided to give it a try and I am very pleased I did.

Michael Johnson

I never wanted a track saw, but thought at this price what have I go to loose, turns out nothing, seem to have used it a lot in preference to my table saw, easier to cut large sheet material and the bottom of doors with the track saw than trying to balance them on a table and pushing into the blade, plus especially for doors on uneven frames the cut can be easily adjusted to suit any angle cut, would not be without it now.

Steven Jones

On the whole a great saw and value for money. It cuts in a straight line and at 90 degrees. The saw can be adjusted so there is no play on the track, so cuts are precise. Unlike some other saws there is no anti-kickback mechanism. it would have been annoying to have one but you need to be careful when plunging the saw.

I have just two criticisms. Firstly, even with the hole tapped up and a vacuum hose connected it throws a lot of dust out. Secondly, the track is a little bit out. One end was at 90 degrees, the other end at 90.3 degrees This was measured used a Rutland digital angle rule and occurred on each of the two track pieces that came with the saw and with two additional sections I purchased. This just means getting a really straight edge needs a bit of extra work and an additional long straight edge.

Alastair Moffat

I am now wondering "why" it took me so long to buy one of these. Confidence inspiring to say the least and yes a finer blade will be bought for those cosmetically important cuts. Well pleased with Christmas present to self!

Guy Clarkson

What a fantastic bit of kit- Don't be put off by the price- I was contemplating purchasing a track saw from one of the big names but with the low price and a Halloween discount i thought i would take a punt glad I did. the only thing that lets it down is the quality of the manual ( but who reads manuals nowadays). the one this I would say is get a better blade - I purchased a cheap Triton 60 tooth blade and it makes and already good tool 100 times better.

The best function of this saw is the adjustment dial that controls how the saw is held to the track. You can set the dial so that the saw slides back and forth with negligible side play. If you feel any play simply turn the dial and eliminate it. I am very pleased with its cutting performance and overall build quality.

Tony Drew

I was impressed from the moment it arrived. Well balanced body, good strong rails and very well finished. The cutting performance is accurate. I had to rip 250mm from 12 sheets of MDF and it left clean smooth edges every time. Blade is relatively thin so the cutting resistance is minimal. I am delighted with my purchase and would recommend to any joiner. 2 year warranty gives peace of mind as well.

John P

It does exactly what it is meant to do. Very good value.

Don Williams

I did not know whether to invest in a Festool or try this saw. Decided I buy this one and if it was sub standard I'd use it as a first fix hand held saw. I am absolutely delighted. Very clean, straight sawing. I use a pair of Record 6" g clamps rather than the ones supplied as they are a bit flexible but apart from that a great tool. Not quite sure why I would buy a Festool as all I want to do is cut true to a line?

Peter D

Fantastic plunge saw. Simple controls, quietist motor, very accurate after careful set-up. Really nice clean cuts in MDF. Was about to buy another brand GMC, until I saw that this was exactly the same saw. Well done Rutlands you saved me Ă‚£60.

Charlie Gabriel

After nearly 2 years with this saw I feel like I can give it a fully honest review. I initially bought this saw to see what the fuss was about, and if i liked it, would work it until it died and spend out a bit on a premium tool. I'm still waiting for it to die. I fit doors to old frames for about 80% of my work and the other 20% is some sort of cabinetry work, so this saw gets used almost daily. I've cut hardwoods such as Oak doors (Ripped down the edge) and beech worktops. Taking it easy with a sharp blade it has no issues. it glides through MDF like butter. I wouldn't be without it. Dust extraction when connected to my bosch site vac is good. id estimate 85% of dust is extracted.

Other things to consider when buying this saw. The blade. Get a new one, don't even bother with the stock one, get a freud one and make your initial cut on the rails with that. onto the rails. Get the evolution 1400 rails to save you having to clamp up the two short rails to do something simple like cutting the bottom of a door.

Downsides, the lead is so annoyingly short its ridiculous. The plastic locks to get a proper fit on the track always seem to work loose very quickly, so regularly checking and adjusting to get no play is mildly irritating. The two 700mm tracks also only have 1 joining bar, not the end of the world, but the evolution ones have 2 and it feels alot more secure.

Overall i'd say if you are looking for a tracksaw/plungesaw on a budget i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tool.
