This premium bench grinder has been specifically developed for sharpening tough alloys such as A2 and M2 high speed steels which are used in the manufacture of woodturning tools, chisels, knives, plane irons and carving tools.
Both wheels are made from aluminium oxide which are better suited than carborundum wheels, found on most bench grinders. The wheels have a medium bond and density strength meaning that they run cooler and are less prone to glazing. The coarse, grey aluminium oxide wheel is 20mm wide and is fast cutting to remove nicks and to shape and establish a basic edge. The fine, white aluminium oxide wheel is 40mm wide is used to refine and add the final cutting edge.
The high torque motor has ample power for significant stock removal and is extremely quiet in operation. Mounted to the head of the grinder is a detachable stone grader for re-surfacing the wheel when worn.

Really nice grinder, very quiet. There was a chip on one of the wheels but doesn't seem to affect sharpening so didn't bother returning, it would have been better to have had adjustable rests to set the grinding angle but for the price very happy.

Fantastic bench grinder. Not really used it a lot yet but noticeable reduction in noise compared to my last two and the work light is a nice touch. Will update review once used a bit more but like other items from rutlands totally faultless!

Had smaller grinders before but wanted a bigger model so purchased this grinder while on offer, what a good decision, 250 watts of power, heavy weight helps it stay put. The spark guards are very handy and the light is adjustable to any position that I have needed to date. Great machine for the price £99.99 but it goes on offer at£59.99 every 6 months or so, so grab one. Great buy for your workshop.

A very sturdy machine with spark guards, lens protectors, & flexible light. Smooth running and the delight of a wide wheel. The assemble instructions were rubbish and the reference to an adjustment handle or knob totally incorrect. The table rest is not adjustable other than a slight movement forwards or backwards - a great shame that a tilt table was not incorporated so as to enable lathe gouges to be sharpened hence my 4 stars although the overall quality and Rutlands service needed more. How about a lathe gouge adaptor Mr Rutland and co?

My Clarke 6" grinder has done sterling work over the years but was incredibly loud and though fine with the smaller tools getting a consistent edge on anything larger than 1" was a time consuming affair.
I like the other reviewers have been amazed at just how quiet it is in comparison and was so pleased with everything about the machine that just about everything I have that can be sharpened has been done, whether it needed it or not.

Been meaning to buy a bench grinder for ages. I cannot believe how quite this grinder is. The 40mm stone sharpened my old plane blade a treat, finished with a diamond stone and now cuts beautifully. Id have paid full price for this machine and been happy, at this discount price it feel like christmas has come early.

A relatively quiet and solid bench grinder. Good value for money considering the wide white wheel. To sharpen wood lathe tools you need a tiltable rest, so I made one from wood which I was already prepared to do. Great results. Also a missing bolt for one of the guards, but I found a replacement in my workshop. Hence the 4 stars, but really good value for money. Very pleased with purchase.
