This kit features the wetstone sharpener with jigs that are specifically designed for the shaping and sharpening of woodturning and carving tools. The kit includes R7550 wetstone sharpener, R7557 turning tool jig, R7560 carving tool jig, R7561 profiled leather honing wheel and the R7563 tool rest jig.
Wetstone Sharpener
With this premium performance sharpener you can shape, sharpen and hone any type of edge tool to a mirror finish. It is powered by a reversible, variable speed, permanent-magnet motor, as used on the latest Tesla electric vehicles, which will maintain the ideal speed regardless of load applied. The low speed range means there is no risk that the edge becomes overheated and loses its hardness, giving you full control of the sharpening process, so that you do not remove more steel than necessary, making your tools last much longer.
The 220 grit aluminium oxide grinding wheel, which it cooled in a bath of water, offers the most effective combination of efficient steel removal, smooth surface finish and long stone life. When you need to refine an edge, you can use the stone grader to convert the surface of the stone to 1000 grit. Supplied in two parts, the design allows you to pivot your gouge horizontally and vertically to control and perfect both the side grind and nose angle. Once mounted onto the support arm, the jig can be locked in to position, meaning your grind can be repeated on multiple gouges to provide a consistent edge geometry.
Carving Tool Jig
This carving tool jig rests freely against the bar of the universal jig holder to keep the carving tool equidistant from the grind stone, to ensure a repeatable grind angle across the whole bevel edge. The V shape design automatically clamps the carving tool to the centre of the jig. Once the angle has been set simply holding the jig against the bar and applying slight pressure provides a consistent edge geometry.

This profiled leather honing wheel is used for honing and polishing the inside of woodturning bowl, spindle and rouging gouges and carving gouges and V tools. I delayed buying this for far too long. Took a while to figure out how the jigs need to be moved around to get the grinding angles right (and how much water is enough in the trough!) but the results are excellent.

I love the almost instant gratification of getting my grinder the day after I ordered it! It came ready assembled. It took a few minutes to figure out how the various jigs work and then I spent a blissful afternoon sharpening my carving gouges and my woodturning gouges.
I have, in the past spent hours trying to get the perfect edge by hand on a series of stones (including a diamond stone and a set of Albuquerque stones). Never have I enjoyed sharpening so much and never have I achieved such a keen edge.

It's a fair sharpener for the price - bought on sale with the master jig pack to sharpen chisels, gouges and whittling knives. It has a 200mm stone wheel.
It took a little while to set it up - a small square with spirit level is very useful here in checking the level of the jig arm, whether the wheel is truly perpendicular to the jig arm, as well as whether the chisels/gouges are true in the jigs. If not, you won't get an even grind. Took a few goes to get right, but mostly there now.
I like:
- The number of jigs in the pack to cover most tools - the knife jig is in between a Tormek large and small knife jig in size so does both well. I bought a separate tormek jig to do small whittling knifes (SVM-00) like the Pfeil Kerb 1.
- It runs quiet
- It has a reverse switch on it unlike many others at this price point.
- It gets a good edge on when it's finally set up... which leads me to:
- Once the tools are in, the jigs don't move about or wobble much at all.
- The honing wheel really does get knives wicked sharp and is very quick vs a hand strop for maintaining edges.
I don't really like:
- It has a plastic body rather than metal. It feels sturdy, but the supplied magnetic angle finders don't stick to it like with other brands.
- The supplied angle finders have poorly printed numbers on them which make it difficult to read and they feel like they're going to fall apart.
- There is a raised edge on the honing wheel where the 2 lapping edges of leather have been glued together which bangs against the tool on every rotation. Not a huge deal, but not great. Could probably be filed down (not sure what that would do to your warranty..)
- I'm not sure the stone wheel runs perfectly true. It's mostly there, but there's a definite wobble on the sides that you can see. The grinding edge is flat after some dressing.
That said, it seems like a fair amount of machine for the price, comes with a few features that you don't get on others at this price point.

This is my first wet stone grinder and I have to say that the ease of use and the finished of the cutting edge on chisels,wood turning tools and hand plane blade is amazing.
I do also own a Robert Sorby Pro edge but it is in my opinion
no a patch on the finish or ease of use of the wet stone grinder. Well done Rutlands and thank you for the service.

I bought the wet stone sharpener and master jig set for my workshop. It's ideal for my little workshop as it doesn't take up much space. Prior to doing this I looked around at the competition and frankly you can't beat it on price alone. I also got a comprehensive set of jigs. Thus far I've been sharpening up my chisels, and plane blades. Next will be carving tools. I'm chuffed that it's so good and would recommend for anybody.

What a truely lovely machine, it is so smooth running and quiet. Excellent results as well, especially if one purchases the jig sets to aid sharpening. I honestly believe this is comparable with the top of the range Tormek machines, yet half the price. The included out of the box accessories are well thought through and useful, especially the diamond truing tool to ensure the wheel is perfectly flat.

Superb looking machine to have in my workshop, it is almost a shame to use it. Would recommend as a sharpening product, the results that I have been getting on plane irons and chisels are second to none.

I bought this sharpener to put a perfect edge on my turning tools. It works really well. The variable speed allows you set the correct rotational speed for the tool in hand. The slow speed range means the stone stays cool, and you never have to worry about taking to much steel off. I still manage to splash water over the bench though. The honing wheel is great for adding that final polished finish. My rouging and bowl gouges have never performed better.

Runs very quietly and smoothly. The variable speed control is a real advantage as you can start slow and gradually build up speed once you have determined that your sharpening angles are correct. Diamond sharpening tool is a must if your working on HSS tools as the stone soon wears - if like me you have over 20 turning tools to sharpen. Overall very pleased with this wetstone and would recommend.

I looked at a number of wetstone sharpeners on the market including the Scheppach, Record and . I choose this one because it runs very smoothly without hardly and noise and the jigs to not judder or wander under load. It also has a powerful motor which I need because I will be sharpening plane irons which are up to 50mm wide and can be extremely hard.

As a woodcarver I need to maintain the cutting profiles and edges on my chisels at all times, particularly when working on hardwoods. This wetstone sharpener has proved to be a good choice. The sharpening stone is of a high quality and does not wear as quickly as others I have used. The rotational speed in acceptable and does not cause the water to spill over the trough. The motor is very quiet and vibration is minimal. The cast aluminium plate holds the jig arm rigidly in place minimising movement when working on long neck tools. So far I am impressed.
