Product Details
The new Precision 100 Woodturning Chuck is the latest advancement in work holding systems for discerning woodturners and comes with a 10 year warranty. Precision engineered and beautifully balanced, it offers superior performance combined with rock-solid holding power and excellent load bearing capability. The chuck is specifically designed so the jaws cut into the wood to provide a class leading clamping force, unlike other woodturning chucks that use engineering jaw profiles which crush the wood fibres and do not grip the workpiece as securely. The body of the chuck is engineered to ensure that the workpiece sits as close as possible to the headstock, therefore reducing load and minimizing wear on the main spindle bearing.
This chuck is extremely strong and durable, as it is machined from a special grade of medium-tensile steel, which is normally used for the manufacture of high performance turbo impellors, pistons and gears. Using this steel allows for closer tolerances during the manufacturing process which results in excellent concentricity to minimize vibration and to ensure that a chatter-free, super fine finish can be achieved by the woodturner. The precision machined scroll mechanism and the high ratio gearing combine to ensure a strong grip irrespective of workpiece size. The four jaws open and close using a T-handled key, allowing for one handed operation, leaving one hand free to support and balance your workpiece when mounting and dis-mounting the workpiece.
The chuck kit contains the Precision 100 chuck body, 70mm dovetail jaws, 75mm face plate ring, 50mm pin jaws and a woodscrew chuck. This wide array of jaws allows for all popular turning projects including; spindles, bowls, goblets, candlesticks, pepper mills, pens and pencils and even turning unseasoned and green timber. Designed to be used with all sizes of lathes from midi and mini lathes through to large capacity professional lathes. The chuck and jaws are presented in a box set, which features a dedicated foam cut out to aid protection when not in use. 1" x 8tpi and 33 x 3.5mm chucks are direct threaded, 3/4" x 16tpi, 1" x 12tpi, 1 1/4" x 8tpi and 1 1/2" x 8tpi chucks are supplied with thread adaptors.
This is without doubt the finest chuck system we have offered and allows for a multitude of operations to be carried out without removing the chuck from the lathe. It is precision made, has excellent concentricity, a wide range of jaws and comes with a 10 year warranty. The optional jaw pack is a firm favourite as it allows you to further develop your turning skills and broadens the range of projects that you can turn. ©

I have been using a Precision 75 chuck and jaws for some time, which are excellent quality, and now that I am moving on to larger pieces of turning needed a larger chuck and had no hesitation in purchasing the Precision 100 with the complete set of jaws, which is excellent value. As usual with Rutlands the order arrived well packaged the next day and I have already used the dovetail and pin jaws on my current project. First class.

I have just purchased one of these chucks and compared it to my other (a well known make), it is an exceptionally well made item and for the money a great buy. To have all the extra bits and bobs, without having the extra expense of buying them one at a time, is just great money saver.
Well done - Rutlands.

I had spent ages choosing the right chuck and at last decided Rutlands had the one that I wanted. The delivery was speedy and I was kept informed of the progress of the order. The chuck arrived quickly and is just what I had hoped it would be. It is very well made and a lovely piece of machinery. I am delighted with it. I shall use Rutlands in the future. Many thanks for great service an great product.

I recently acquired a second hand Record No 3 lathe with a swivel headstock so that I could turn large diameter bowls. I bought this chuck as it appeared excellent value for money and I new I could return it if I was not satisfied. When it arrived I screwed the chuck onto the spindle and used my Starret dial gauge to see how true the rotation was. It was less than 1/10" of a thousandth of an inch. this gave me confidence as I would be turning up to 24" bowls and any out of true would cause major issues the larger the diameter. I have used the chuck on five project to date and I am delighted with the performance. I have sprayed the inner case insert with WD40 so that every time I put the chuck to bed it is corrosion protected. Good purchase.

Fantastic chuck. Every thing you need in one case. Good build quality, good finish on the jaws and runs true. Be careful though not to over tighten the jaw screws - they are a difficult to undo if over tightened. I recommend

I looked at the Nova, Axminster and the Record but this one offered far more jaws than the others at considerably less money. So far it has not let me down. It seems well engineered and the jaws open and close smoothly each time. I've turned a goblet with a 5mm diameter stem so that should tell you a lot. I definitely would buy again.

Great piece of kit. I am using mine on a Record No 3 lathe. So far I have turned a 14" bowl and it worked a treat even when initially roughing out. Runs true and I like the fact that no dust or debri can enter the rear of the chuck.
