The Precision 75 Woodturning Chuck Complete Kit comes with seven jaw fitments and a jaw screw set and will allow both the novice and professional turner to complete any woodturning project. The chuck body is precision engineered to ensure that the workpiece sits as close as possible to the headstock, therefore reducing load and minimizing wear on the main spindle and bearing. This chuck is extremely strong and durable, as it is machined from a special grade of medium-tensile steel, which is normally used for the manufacture of high performance turbo impellors, pistons and gears. Using this steel allows for closer tolerances during the manufacturing process which results in excellent concentricity to minimize vibration and to ensure that a chatter-free, super fine finish can be achieved by the woodturner. It is the latest advancement in work holding systems for discerning woodturners and comes with a 10 year warranty. Precision engineered and beautifully balanced, it offers superior performance combined with rock-solid holding power and excellent load bearing capability.
The chuck is specifically designed so the jaws cut into the wood to provide a class leading clamping force, unlike other woodturning chucks that use engineering jaw profiles which crush the wood fibres and do not grip the workpiece as securely. The precision machined scroll mechanism and the high ratio gearing combine to ensure for a strong grip irrespective of workpiece size. The four jaws open and close using a T-handled key, allowing for one handed operation, leaving one hand free to support and balance your workpiece when mounting and dis-mounting the workpiece. Measuring 70mm in diameter, this chuck can be used on all sizes of lathe from large capacity professional lathes through to midi and mini lathes.

I purchased this chuck to use on a small variable speed lathe similar to the Rutland Premium Woodturning Lathe. I have used the screw chuck, dovetail jaws and pin jaws so far to turn a number of small bowls. I have found the chuck to be excellent. Reversing a bowl from the screw chuck to dovetail jaws showed perfect concentrcity which is important in a chuck. The back plate of the chuck is slightly off centre which at first sight gives the illusion that the chuck is not perfectly central on the spindle, but this is not the case. Recommended for small item turning on a small lathe.

This is an excellent piece of kit. Everything a woodturner needs comes with it. It is sturdily built and copes superbly well with all sizes of timber to be held in the lathe. Excellent value. I looked at the Record Nova, Clubman, Patriot and the Axminster chucks at my two local tool shops near High Wycombe. Rutlands don't have a retail shop so I ordered one on the basis I would send it back if I didn't like it. It is not going back! It looks identical to the Record Nova and Charnwood chucks but the Rutlands version comes with all the jaws I will ever need. Selling point is that i have 2 lathes - delta with big metric thread and Record with a smaller thread and the adaptor supplied means i can use it on both.

I recently bought another brand of chuck (New Zealand) and when I fitted it to the spindle of my Coronet Major Lathe there was significant levels of vibration when turning large pieces. The chuck supplier told me it would be because my lathe was 30 years old and that the thread would have worn. I returned it and bought this chuck as it has received positive reviews due to it's compact design which is meant to reduce load on the spindles bearing. I have turned 3 fruit bowls (10", 12" and 16") all out of tulip wood and the chuck has performed superbly. Mounting and re mounting the bowls was fast and simple. My next project is a pair of candle sticks and then a goblet - I can't wait. Only quibble is how long the jaw fixing screw heads will last for before I round them off. Thankfully you get more than you need. Excellent chuck that I would fully recommend and excellent value.

I have been turning for over 25 years and have a grand total of 5 chuck systems and 3 lathes -Jet,Rexon (midi) and One Way which is the best in the world. I bought this chuck for my Grandson to use on my Rexon lathe as it came with all of the jaws he would ever need. He loves it and has already turned a goblet and an egg cup. The chuck is beautifully finished with no sharp edges and runs true with no noticeable vibration. I am in the process of teaching him how to use the indexing ring. I have no hesitation in saying this is an excellent chuck system.

Only having a basic lathe I decided that perhaps a huge expense at this time was not justified, but I wanted to get a chuck system that would be both value for money and allow me to develop as a turner without restricting me too much. I found this item and compared it many others, I took the plunge having got Rutlands to send me information about jaw dimensions for compression and expansion. Ordered it and it arrived the very next day. Superb is my first impression of it. (BTW it also includes a screw centre. No instruction leaflet but I dare say that is available somewhere. great service, good despatch item look s good as well.
