Drill Bit Depth Stops - Set of 2

There seemed an obvious practicality to the design of these depth stops which initially appealed them to me, being that there is a one size fits all construction within the limitations of their range of drill bits. The general construction is referenced as being a high grade polymer which i found to be accurate, and consists of a two part outer shell, similar in design to that of a drill chuck, with an internal expandable sleeve (collet), tapered at the ends which holds and clamps the brill bits upon tightening the outer shell. According to the description listed o Rutlands webpage they are capable of holding bits with shank sizes of 2mm to 10mm which i found during my testing not be wholly accurate. On a practical note, i found that it was necessary to firstly separate the two halves of the outer shell from the collet, then insert the drill bit into the collet and then reassemble, this seemed to be the most consistent and reliable practice. In regards to the range of drill bit shank sizes that can be accepted, i determined that the smaller (30mm) depth stop will function with bits of 2mm to 5mm shank diameter, whereas the larger (50mm) will accept diameters from 6mm to 12.5mm at the most. Drill bits of 5.5mm however are not naturally catered for in either depth stop, or at least in my examples.
There functionality and practicality nonetheless aren't disputed and i have found them both to be useful and valuable additions to my woodworking. The only limitation that i have experienced is due to their physical length, which can reduce the usable length of the drill bit where deeper holes are desired.
Overall though, the limitations are minimal, and i am very pleased with the purchase, no regrets.

These were with me very quickly after order. Good quality photography on this site - and the depth limiters were just as depicted. I needed the smaller one in particular - it goes down to 2mm bits which was quite hard to find elsewhere. Just add clarity they are small - and go on in front of the chuck. Did a great job.

fit a wide variety of drill bits

Did exactly what they were designed for so much better than the grub screw ones as these stay in place highly recommended

Always up to now used the type with the small grub screw which are pretty much useless and do not stay in place, these grip really well they do not budge once put on. the only trouble i am having is the smaller one i have difficulty putting drill bits through it.
