The three most popular Japanese saws; Dozuki, Kataba and Ryoba, for crosscutting, ripping and fine joinery. Cutting on the pull stroke, each blade is kept in tension throughout the cut, allowing them to be significantly thinner and lighter, removing less material and therefore requiring far less energy to cut. Each tooth is impulse hardened for superior sharpness and blade life.

FULL DESCRIPTION
This set features the three most popular power grip handle Japanese saws, Dozuki (R1001), Kataba (R1004) and Ryoba (R1007) complete with a traditional Japanese saw roll for storage and protection.

Japanese Saws
Made exclusively for Rutlands® by Gyokucho, the world's leading Japanese saw manufacturer, these saws have one stand out difference from their western counterparts; they cut on the pull stroke rather than the push stroke. The action of pulling the saw keeps the blade in tension through the cut, which allows the blade to be thinner and lighter, for a much smoother and faster cut. The narrow kerf means that the saw removes less material and requires far less energy to achieve a super-fine, tear free and clean cut. Each tooth is impulse hardened for superior sharpness and to stay sharper for longer. The teeth are symmetrically set to ensure straight, drift free sawing and the blades are electronically surface plated to minimise friction and prevent resin build up and corrosion.

Dozuki
This Dozuki saw features ultra-thin, universal teeth for sawing across, along and diagonally to the grain. Due to the finest of kerfs, Dozuki saws are indispensable for cutting dovetails and other fine joints and for making precise shoulder and crosscuts. The universal tooth pattern allows for the rip-cut of pins and the crosscut of side pins when making dovetails in both hard and soft wood. A reinforced back stabilises the 0.3mm ultra-thin, 240mm long blade to ensure backlash free saw blade guidance for straight, chatter free performance.

Kataba
Kataba saws have slightly thicker blades, that are very robust and not require a reinforcing back, allowing for deep cuts flush to the surface and for long cuts on large workpieces. This Kataba has a 240mm blade with impulse hardened, trapezoidal teeth for cutting across and diagonal to the grain. Each tooth is sharpened on three edges in an alternating pattern to cleanly slice, rather than tear the wood fibres leaving an extremely clean, smooth finish. The tooth geometry is excellent at clearing the kerf to prevent clogging. With its wear resistant, super hard teeth this Kataba saw will perform trimming, shoulder and flush cuts in hardwoods, exotic and tropical hardwoods, soft woods, particle boards and glued woods.

Ryoba
The Ryoba is the most versatile Japanese saw for cabinetmaking and joinery as the blade has two different tooth patterns to allow for both crosscut and rip work. This Ryoba has a 240mm blade with impulse hardened, trapezoidal teeth for cutting across and diagonal to the grain on one side and triangular teeth for ripping along the grain on the opposite side. The trapezoidal teeth are sharpened on three edges in an alternating pattern to cleanly slice, rather than tear the wood fibres leaving an extremely clean, smooth finish. The triangular rip teeth become progressively finer from tip to tang to make starting the cut easier and to use less force as the stroke progresses. Ryoba saws have slightly thicker blades, that are very robust and not require a reinforcing back, allowing for deep cuts flush to the surface and for long cuts on large workpieces in hardwood, softwood and particle board.

Power Grip Handle
The blade is mounted on a handle made from TPE which is very robust and resilient material and features a hatched grip that is both slip-proof and extremely comfortable to hold. Made in Miki City, Japan. ©

I purchased these Japanese saws afew weeks ago

I purchased these Japanese saws afew weeks ago as I already have a few so know just how good they are. As with all tools that I have purchased from Rutlands they are extremely well built, perform fantastically and a joy to use.I really like the handles on these saws as they are non slip which is great when doing extremely fine work and detailailing. The blades themselves are extremely sharp, they cut on the pull rather than the traditional saws that work in the push. They cut through hardwood timbers with ease Each saw can be used for a multitude of different applications which is great. The small curfe of the blades are excellent for doing things like dovetails and fine delicate jobs, if you cut straight it makes the whole process less stressful and a pleasure to use.

My first Japanese saws and I'm super impressed...

My first Japanese saws and I'm super impressed. Fast, clean, precise cutting straight out of the box despite years of using traditional western saws. The Kerr is amazingly fine too, a little too narrow to get my feet saw blade in to remove most of the waste when cutting dovetails. I've only had them a few days, looking forward to using them more.I bought them on one of the daily deals and so they were super value too

I've never used any other Japanese or pull saw...

I've never used any other Japanese or pull saws before but I have to say, these are stunningly impressive.Slightly offputting when you first receive them as they are somewhat larger than you would imagine from looking at the pictures and you might mistake them for a set of murder weapons! The other disconcerting things is that the blades are rather thin and you may find that they don't appear to be perfectly straight. These concerns disappear as soon as you use them though: they cut with ease through wood and leave a beautifully clean cut, even in my amateur hands. Regarding the blades not being straight, this is a function of them being thin and being designed to cut on the pull stroke; under the light tension of a gentle pull stroke they cut in a straight line.Would recommend highly.

As a woodcarver this is my first set of decent Japanese saws and I am so happy I purchased them. They are great to use. The thin blades and the selection of cutting grades makes cutting so much easier compared to traditional saws. The quality of the saws is great. I would highly recommend this set for all types of accurate work.

Japanese Saws - 240mm - Power Grip - Set of 3 with Roll

Smoother, faster sawing

Cutting on the pull stroke, the blade remains in tension through the cut, allowing for a thinner blade and a much smoother and faster cut.
