FULL DESCRIPTION
The Rutlands® R80 1/2" router delivers exceptional power at 2200W, whilst providing a smoother, more controlled freehand routing experience. A newly designed, linear ball bearing guided plunge mechanism vastly improves on the standard rigid plunge action, often prone to lateral movement. These ball bearing guides provide the smoothest, class-leading, friction free plunge stroke light enough to operate with just one hand. Plunging up to a depth of 70mm, the R80 travels through its range without excessive play or tightness, allowing routing with a higher level of accuracy and control. Depth adjustment is quickly and precisely controlled using the fine adjustment knob to a resolution of 0.1mm, clearly marked in easy to read graduations. A 3 turret depth stop and graduated depth scale allow for up to three different cut depths to be pre-set, ideal for making incremental passes.

The powerful 2200W motor runs at a variable speed range of between 9,000 – 22,000rpm, maintaining a constant rotational speed, even under demanding loads. Each of the six settings and its corresponding motor speed are visible just below the dial for quick reference. Soft start technology ensures that the motor is brought up to speed gradually, supressing any shock on start-up. The ergonomically contoured soft grip handles ensure optimum control of the router and feature a handle-mounted power switch for ease of use. A safety lock mechanism prevents accidental start-up, whilst a locking button allows the motor to run continually, ideal for extended use. The tool-free template guide system removes the need for screws, allowing quick and easy installation and interchange of guide bushings, minimising downtime during template work. Simply pull out the spring-loaded lever, place a guide within the base opening and release the lever to lock securely in place.

The 160mm diameter base is CNC machined from a strong aluminium die casting, offering superior rigidity and strength whilst reducing overall weight. An anti-friction, non-marring plastic sub base ensures a smooth sliding movement over the workpiece. The flat front face of the base has been designed to provide stability with the router lying down, making bit changes both quicker and easier. The R80 router is supplied with a 37mm diameter dust port, 1/2" & 1/4" collets, collet spanner, adjustable straight edge guide, trimmer guide, template guide and chip guard. ©

Nearly there with the best of its kind

I gave it 5 stars as I couldn’t give it 4.5 ,my issue is the godly time consuming stopper block , I think the company will change , which will make it among the best solid powerful routers of its kind

Good robust router, good freehand and table mounted.

This is my third router, all different brands. I purchased this one because I needed something more powerful and heavier than the two I already had to work some oak doors. I chose this one because as far as I can tell, it is almost identical to the Makita RP2303FC. And it is almost identical, not the same colour but even the instructions use the same words and diagrams.
I find the tool powerful and comfortable to use, a good weight when using large diameter cutters. I like the plunge lock and adjustment mechanisms, particularly like that you can adjust the plunge height from the top when it is mounted upside down in a router table. You need an extra **** to do this that is not supplied but not hard to get and it makes the difference when mounted in a table. The negatives for me are I find that the on/off locking switch is a bit fiddly to lock on and the supplied 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch collet reducing sleeve doesn't tighten down on 1/4 inch tool shanks very well. I don't like reducing sleeves anyway and will be getting a 1/4 inch collet from China.

Works well and has everything you need.

The headline is that it works, really, very well.
Soft start is a blessing, takes the edge off the scary start up part of use. and the width of the handles gives a lot more control than I'd expected.

Minor annoyances such as the plastic cap on the **** holding the dust extraction needing a bit of epoxy as it came off first use, and the fence being bent on arrival are easily addressed. Fence

First few uses, seemed to stick a bit and needed a wiggle to pop up again, but it's worn in a bit and that's a thing if the past.

Plunge depth is great, and really, would pudding another couple of hundred for a different brand give any more utility? I think not. Design seems a bit clunky but it works without too much fuss. Woulf have been nice to have it be able to buy a storage container that fits or bag that would take it and all the parts, but guess that's just a job to do.

Decent bit of kit. Works very well for me.

Best router for price

I had this router for just over a week, this is my 3rd plunge router I've owned, but none have been as smooth and a powerful as this one, leave the cut very smooth
