Butt Chisel - Set of 6

I was looking for a set to replace my previous sets of Irwin chisels and came across these in the sale. I’m enjoying my new hobby and wanted some to improve my woodwork skills that didn’t cost the earth. These are great as there’s every size needed and come in a nice box. I will probably but a secondary bevelled edge on them, but can’t wait to use them.

I finally took the plunge and invested in a decent set of chisels to replace my decade+ old cheap'n'nasty set, that have been used and abused.
Finally having a decent set is a revelation!
They are workably sharp right out of the case and were put straight to use, all cutting cleanly and easily in knotty softwood; Im sure they will perform excellently when properly sharpened.
They handle very well, comfortable and secure in the hand and feel very robust. The supplied case is a nice bonus.
An absolute 'no-brainer' purchase when on a daily deal.

I have been using this set for the past few months and can highly recommend them. The handles live up to a lot of hammering and maintain their shape. I install a lot of doors and they are great for chiselling out the hinge and lock recesses as you have excellent control due to the short blades and handles. I have had to sharpen the 13mm one a couple of times as I use it mainly for cutting mortices and I put for me a very good edge back on it. I would definitely recommend and buy again.

Received these today and had a little play, a massive improvement over my existing set. Really nicely designed/made, well balanced and most importantly, sharp . Absolute bargain too . Usual excellent service from Rutlands, thanks to all concerned, highly recommended.

I have always had a preference for using butt chisels over conventional chisels. You have far greater control over a butt chisel as your hand is closer to the wood and you can feel the cut better. Unless you are chopping out very deep mortices I would always work with a butt chisel.
