Dowel Jig

Hi this seems to be an extremely well made jig it arrived today and after a short test it has performed very well. It looks professional, quite heavy and made of metal with all the accessories that you would need. I am very pleased with it so far and I think that it is well worth the price. Thank you Rutlands.

I had a much cheaper plastic dowelling jig but it failed after a small amount of use. This one looked a lot more rugged, easier to use and gave me more options. Only used briefly for T joints so far, but I'm glad I went for it. Includes all the drill bits you need plus depth stop collars for each, so I could get started straight away with no fuss.

Very well constructed aluminium parts and very accurate in use. Each method of jointing is covered in the manual and I appreciate the inclusion of a moulded hard plastic storage case which keeps all parts neatly stowed away when not in use. Would highly reccomend as a do-it-all dowel jig.

I read up quite a bit before buying this jig and although it looks like very similar jigs are available for less and may even be from the same manufacturer, I trust Rutlands having had numerous items from them before so would rather order from them. I have not had chance to use the jig but have had a really good look at it and the quality of machining and finish looks very good. The case it comes with is pretty decent too and will make it much easier to keep everything together and store flat with other tool boxes. The individual parts fit together well and the instructions are fairly good too. One slight disappointment is that other similar jigs seem to come with a 1mm spacer that fits on magnetically when required allowing for 1mm adjustment increments when centring the jig on a board. Without a shim / spacer his jig will only allow for 2mm adjustments so centring exactly may not always be possible. I have ordered a piece of 1mm aluminium sheet however so I should be able to get around this issue but it’s a shame something so simple and inexpensive isn’t included for the price. Overall, I’m pleased with my purchase though. It is the usual foot quality I always get from Rutlands.
