This innovative drill guide places its pivot point on the surface of the material, maintaining the same entry point throughout its full 120° angle range. This auto alignment feature drastically reduces setup time, allowing you to quickly position the guide against layout lines on your workpiece, reassured that whatever the angle, the drill bit will always enter at exactly the same point.
The precision machined aluminium headstock runs on two 35mm long linear bearing races, providing ultra-smooth, controlled travel, free from lateral play. The three jaw 13mm chuck features two specially selected high speed bearings, ensuring repeated accuracy and clean, consistently drilled holes. The chuck features a ¼” quick change hex shank and either side of the shank is storage for two self-centering pins which screw into the base, allowing the guide to self-centre over the edge of a board. Both 12mm thick steel guide posts feature depth stop collars, allowing one to be used to support the headstock during bit changes without losing the current depth setting. With the stop collars removed, the full 235mm range of travel can be achieved.
With a large 240mm x 160mm footprint, the 20mm thick base provides rock-solid stability and ample room for clamping. The base has 75mm wide opening to accommodate large forstner bits, and reference points around the base opening allow quick positioning against pre-drawn layout lines. V-grooves above the base facilitate the drilling of round stock such as dowels or table legs.
An auxiliary edge guide attaches to all four sides of the base, locating the guide quickly at a set distance from the edge of a board, ideal for batch drilling. This auxiliary guide can also be configured to sit under the drill guide, providing additional support when drilling close to an edge. Each side of the base features clear, easy to read angle graduations, including a reference mark at 22.5°. The two large locking handles are knurled for a secure grip and steadfast support when drilling. ©

I have been looking to get a decent drill guide for a while now. Reading reviews and looking at specs all over the internet. I narrowed it down to a few that looked good quality. All three were roughly priced the same, I ended up buying the Rutland's auto alignment drill guide for two important reasons (other than the build quality).It has a 13mm chuck and a lot of the work I need it for needs more than the 10mm chuck in most of the others, and secondly the biggest gripe with drill guides was the stability when drilling, the auto alignment addition on the Rutland's guide makes it extremely stable, this is not going to deflect or twist. My only gripe if you can call it that, is I have nowhere to store the drill chuck key on the guide and no doubt I will misplace this at some point, this is a very minor thing. So far I have been really impressed, it is very solid, well built with quality materials and has been perfect for the small number of jobs I have used it for to this point, accurate every time. I would definitely recommend, and if you can wait until it is discounted in a daily price drop, it is an absolute bargain.
This is a very well made piece of kit, would highly recommend.
