I bought these clamps whilst on special offer to use for edge banding on an upcoming built-in drawers project.
They are of extremely heavy cast metal construction, with more than ample max thickness clearance and i'm sure will do that job perfectly.
However, when they arrived it struck me that one might be ideal for a chair repair job that I had failed to complete just one day earlier.
A wood-framed dining chair had sheared - not at the joint, but along the grain of one of the teak components. I had tried to glue if back with a regular F-clamp bur, because all the wood had a radiused profile and was not set at a right angle (see attached pic) the clamp was just sliding off the piece as I tightened it - not surprisingly. However, using one of these clamps, the tool was able to cope both with the radiused profiles and with the obtuse angle first time. Brilliant! I now think I might have a couple more repair jobs where I can use one of these.
My only complaint is that, with six of these items being really quite heavy, the box in which they are packed had not wihstood the journey and was partially collapsed. Such a shame as Rutlands boxes are usually so neat and stolid that I always leave the contents in them to store in my garage.
Love these very well made does not mark the work piece when you tighten them up, will be buying more .
This is the second lot of edge clamps I've bought when they have been in the 24hr sale, still tend to use pads on the face side of work, other than that they are great and I'll probably buy more next time round.
Essential if you intend to clamp three faces at once, Ive recently been using them to fix some laminate edging to a new work top, they've done a fantastic job
