Block Planes
Manufactured to British Standards, Rutlands® hand planes are recommended by discerning cabinetmakers and carpentry instructors for their superb construction, finish and performance. Using world leading manufacturing techniques, each precision ground plane represents a serious alternative to the premium brands produced in North America. The renowned design has a screw mechanism that easily allows the blade to be varied in depth relative to the sole to change the depth of cut.

Standard Angle Block Plane
A block plane is small enough to be used in one hand and is designed for cutting end grain and making trimming or fine adjustment cuts. This block plane has a modified body casting to make it more responsive in use and a finer pitch blade adjustment thread for improved blade setting accuracy. An adjustable nosepiece allows the mouth to be opened or closed to accommodate coarse or ultra-fine shavings, this nosepiece is secured in place with a knurled brass knob. A 35mm wide, 25° bevelled blade is seated at 20° within the plane, giving an effective angle of 45° for general purpose work. The plane has an overall length of 165mm and weighs 850g.

Materials & Manufacturing
The plane body features heavy, stress relieved ductile iron castings which are precision machined to ensure the soles are flat and square to the sides. The plane is fitted with a T10 high carbon steel tool blade which can take a keen edge, and that has been hardened to RC60-64 for maximum edge retention. The blade is held in position by a large bronze cap iron with an integrated palm rest which allows the plane to nestle snugly in the hand. ©

All good things come in small Packages.

As all Tools it come with Positive & negative this one comes with more Positive than Negative, the body and the frog are mould as one casting of Cast Iron making chunky but well balanced, the sole and sides are finally ground not polished which one may what to do before using too cut down on friction also the surface of the frog making these Negative, the mouth is adjusted by the front part of the sole moving forward and back adjusted by a lever fix beneath the front handle, it's made of brass with a dish like indent on top to rest the thumb in it and figures comfortably around the handle, the fog has a large brass screwed into it which adjusters the blade in&out of the mouth of the plane and is well machined to operate with finger tips, the Cape Iron that retains the blade on the fog is well made in a oval shape at the top end of the Cape Iron fitting snuggle into the parm of the hand making it very comfortable for perlong use, the only other Negative thing is, there is no lever for lateral adjustment, but overall a well made Block Plane.

I purchased this block plane after reading the many good reviews on Rutlands website and also a few other review sites The plane has a really nice weight and feel to it, it cuts comfortably in the hand.Upon opening up the box I found that the bottom needed flattening an m along with the iron. The flattening of both items took a fair bit of time, but once flattened and sharpened it was brilliant. It's such a nice plane to use once properly sharpened, I'm so glad that I opted for this as it's a bit to use.

A completely different animal to my old record block plane. Heavy casting beautifully finished. The brass hold down has a smooth rounded finish which sits well in the palm of the hand. The blade is a thick piece of high grade steel which only required minimum fettling to get a razor sharp edge. Very impressed with the quality and the price. These Chinese planes are really on a par with the more expensive North American makes. Ideal for trimming especially end grain with no break out

Pitch perfect

The fine pitch blade adjustment thread provides superior blade setting accuracy, for the thinnest of shavings.
