FULL DESCRIPTION

Combining power and precision in a compact body, the Rutlands® R55 1/4" router has been carefully engineered to provide a high quality and enjoyable routing experience. Intelligent speed control technology monitors the spindles rpm and adjusts it automatically, maintaining consistent router bit speed under load for smooth and consistent cuts. The six-level variable speed dial with digital LCD speed readout allows for precise speed control to best suit the router bit, material type and application, whether trimming, edge profiling or sign making.

The tough main body and router base are CNC machined from strong aluminium die castings, offering superior rigidity and strength to withstand the most demanding of tasks. This aluminium construction also offers a lighter weight with the entire unit weighing under 3kg for more comfortable use and more precise control when routing by hand. The two large handles on the base feature a soft rubberised grip, ergonomically designed at an incline for comfort and control. The effortlessly smooth plunge mechanism provides complete control during plunge cuts or whilst setting the height of your router bit. A three turret depth stop allows you to precisely control plunge depths and the base features a simple to use locking system when the height needs to be fixed. On the base of the router is a non-marring plastic sub base to ensure smooth, friction-free movement over the workpiece. The base of the router accepts industry standard guide bushes (R5061) to allow for working with dovetail, worktop, lock and hinge jigs.

Included with 3 additional router bases, you now have the versatility to take on any project with complete ease. The trimming base reduces the profile of the router, and with its large window close to the router bit, offers improved visibility allowing you to more accurately follow the cutting line. The offset base offers increased stability with a larger surface area and a geared design that offsets the router bit further towards the edge of the base, 18.5mm at its closest, allowing you to get in much tighter to walls and corners than a traditional plunge base would allow. The tilting base offers a 75° angle of movement with the base moving through -30° to +45°. This tilting design allows for different profiles when using the same router bit and is ideal for trimming laminated boards and other thin stock.

The 710W high torque motor maintains consistent speed under load, allowing you to tackle the toughest of hardwoods with confidence. Motor speed can be adjusted from 13,000 to 33,000 rpm, allowing you to select the speed most suitable for the router bit and material, and the easy to read, backlit LCD speed readout shows the current speed in rpm. Engineered with soft start technology, the motor will slowly increase in speed to the speed set by the user, eliminating dangerous kick back potentially leading to injury. This precision router has also been designed for quiet and vibration free operation, further enhancing the safety and comfort of the user. Supplied with 2 x 1/4" collets, clear plastic chip guard, adjustable straight edge guide and a spare set of motor brushes. ©

Excellent value for money

My first ever router - and hopefully my last, time will tell!

It's a well-built, solid piece of engineering, and excellent value when you factor in all the three additional bases (so four bases in total). Definitely looks the part, though I've only had it a week or so, so can't go in to depth as to its performance or long term reliability.

Still, it's got all the features I was looking for in a 1/4" router, and when you buy the set you get all the alternative bases you'll need for much less than the individual asking price (I've no idea if or when I'll need the other two bases, but I wanted both a fixed base and a plunge base).

Here's hoping that it proves to be as good a it looks!

Good value for money as you are not paying extra for a brand name.

Good value for money as you are not paying extra for a brand name. First router but it has done everything I needed it to do so far.

Very surprised at the robust quality of the unit.

Very surprised at the robust quality of the unit. Well cast and machined, with a good finish. The motor sounds really smooth and not at all loud when running free. All the adjustments work as they should do. The unit promises to be a good performer over time based upon the solidity and design. When running the motor first time there was no smell at all as there is often with lower quality units, this indicates quality components used in manufacture and well built. Very pleased so far. A+

Just recently acquired the Precision 1/4" Router with Trimming, Offset and Tilting Bases and it definitely does what it says on the tin. It has a professional feel to it and glides through any timber I used with ease. The tilting base is a great attachment to the router and chamfers edging perfectly. I particularly think the offset base is fantastic which makes getting closer to the edge very easy, I would recommend this product to anyone.
