FULL DESCRIPTION
Made in Germany, the blades on these bevel edge chisels are made from a premium quality chrome vanadium tool steel, which has high resistance to metal fatigue, to withstand the demands of chopping. Each blade is hardened to Rc61 along its entire length, resulting in a blade that will hold and retain a sharp, fine edge, over the life of the tool, without becoming brittle when sharpened. The blades are finely polished to achieve a mirror finish to minimise friction when cutting dovetails and cleaning delicate joints. The side bevels are finely ground to a narrow, tapered land for cleaning into angled corners and tight recesses. The blade and tang are forged from one piece of steel, which is seated deeply into the chisel handle for strength and durability.

The handles are made from slow growing hornbeam selected for its straight grain and strength and two steel hoops prevent the handle splitting or spreading when struck with a mallet. The handles have flats on the top and bottom for better grip and comfort.

This 11 piece set is beautifully presented in a fitted, solid beech box and comprises of 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 22mm, 25mm, 32mm and 38mm bevel edge chisels, with each chisel having its own location to prevent movement of the chisels. The chisels range in overall length from 250mm to 300mm. These premium bevel edge chisels are built to withstand hard use when chopping out mortice lock and hinges, yet are extremely well balanced for fine work in the workshop when cutting dovetails & cleaning delicate joints. ©

I bought this set of Chisels around a year ago...

I bought this set of Chisels around a year ago.I initially wanted a cheap "Make Do" set, but was tempted by the great value offered.I have to say I have not used them until this week, I honed them on my Tormek leather wheel with some 4000 grit polishing paste as they were already very sharp out of the box. After honing, my first task was some inlay work on a White Oak Snooker Cue, box I'm making. These chisels are outstanding quality, the handles are perfect, and the edge holds it's sharpness beautifully. In short, this is a truly beautiful craftsman grade product, allowing superb accurate, silky smooth cuts in difficult hardwood. They make you look like a better woodworker, I therefore have no hesitation in recommending MHG.I also have great reason to highly recommend Rutlands, having recently corrected non-delivery issue with exceptional customer service.

Before you open the box, you get the feeling there...

Before you open the box, you get the feeling there is a quality product inside and these chisels certainly do not disappoint. The steel is very hard and does take longer to sharpen but this is balanced by the fact the blade holds it edge much longer and you do get an edge sharp enough to shave with. In over 30 years of woodworking I have never used chisels that perform as well as these.

A really nice set of chisels...

A really nice set of chisels. you could happily get by with perhaps five or six but the whole set seems attractively priced so I went for it. The Chisels are great, but the box is a disappointment. Nicely made, but I can never get them all to fit snugly back in and get the lid to shut properly. Nevertheless the chisels sharpen and polish up beautifully and take and (seem to) hold a lovely edge (early days yet). They are well balanced and have very comfortable handles. I love 'em

First off - nice box! Always good to have a nice place to keep a sharp chisel rather than kicking about on a bench somewhere. I like the look and feel of the chisels-so onto sharpening... Crikey the steels hard! I've heard some say that chrome vanadium is not to good for chisels but i have to disagree, yes VERY hard to lap the backs flat(rounded edges due to polishing) but on my oil stone flooded with oil I get very little clogging and the metal cuts nicely if some what slowly !! I would suggest starting at 12mm and working down so your not put off by the 38mm size! I think after a few good honing/lapping sessions the backs will be perfect and I got these sharp enough to shave with hardly any effort after that. Its early days but im hoping if the steel is that hard to sharpen then it should stand up to MDF etc. as they are exceptionally hard on chisel edges :)

I had been waiting for these to come back into stock, and shortly afterwards, they were included as the daily discount so that I couldn't resist, and I'm glad I did. They are stunningly beautiful when you open the case; they are sharp straight out of the box, and easy to use.
