Having bought my first proper dust collector I want not only to use it for the bandsaw that had prompted my dust collection upgrade, but for everything, but I did not want to mess with hose clamps, duct tape and reducers every every time I wanted to move to a different tool. So a quick connect system of some sort or another was high on my needs list.

I found first that such systems are more expensive than I imagined, and that there are not many such systems available to buy in the UK (more are available in the USA).

This one, rather than twisting onto a connector and hearing a reassuring click, this one simply used magnets. Plus, it was way cheaper than the others and so for some reason, I rejected it in my ming, imagining that the magnets would not be able to hold things together with dust and air coursing through its joints. But then I realised that what I thought was a weakness was, in fact a strength. The sawdust is not being 'blown' through the joints, but is being sucked, which is negative air pressure (a partial vacuum) that keeps everything firmly together when switched on. Of course, this extra force keeping things together vashishes then the power is cut - and this is exactly the behaviour you want when you want to move to a different machine, and when you do, you'll won't have to twist the hose to find the right connection point, because the magnets are continuous and will work at any angle.

In short, they're better and cheaper than anything else, and absolutely allow you to move your dust connector hose with you as you move from machine to machine in your workshop.
