FULL DESCRIPTION
This premium performance Rutlands® router table features the R5008 router table stand, R5007 router table top, R5009 router table fence, R5131 plunge router lift and two R5015 double feather boards.

Router Table Stand
The legs and braces on this router table stand are made from 38mm wide x 2mm thick box-section steel for guaranteed strength and rigidity. The stand has been specifically designed to ensure that the legs and braces fit perfectly square to each other, via a series of pre-welded locking nuts and stainless-steel fixings. The feet have a large 45mm diameter footprint for optimum stability and have fine height adjustment when levelling on uneven workshop floors. Each foot is fitted with a heavy-duty rubber pad to offer excellent vibration dampening.

Router Table Top
This table top is laminated on both faces with a low friction, premium-grade, phenolic which is highly wear resistant and allows the workpiece to glide smoothly through the router bit. The phenolic laminate is sandwiched around a 27mm solid moisture-resistant composite core which prevents the absorption of atmospheric moisture, eliminating the risk of warping or distortion of the table surface when working in cold or damp workshops. Set into the top is an extruded aluminium, double T track which includes a standard 19mm track for use with mitre gauges and feather boards, and a 6.3mm T slot for use with stops and homemade jigs.

Router Table Fence
This router table fence is precision CNC machined from aircraft-grade aluminium with a black anodized finish. On the top face of the fence is a metric scale and an 8.3mm T Track for use with Rutlands® flip stops and on the front face there is another 8.3mm T Track for mounting Rutlands® feather boards and the height adjustable router bit guard. The two sub-fences are made from a solid composite with a low friction, phenolic laminate surface to ensure smooth movement of the workpiece. The fences can be adjusted, tool free, to accommodate any router bit from 10mm to 115mm in diameter and the outfeed sub-fence can be off-set to allow for edge planing. The two fence support brackets are mounted to each side of router table top, allowing the fence to be moved back and forth.

Plunge Router Lift - R5
This premium router lift is designed for use with plunge routers and has been meticulously engineered to ensure precise, ultra smooth raising and lowering of the router bit from above the table. The height adjustment is controlled by inserting and rotating a crank handle, making adjustment fast, simple and extremely precise. The main drive spindle is precision machined with a fine-pitch metric thread that allows you to tune-in the height of the router bit to a resolution of 0.025mm, with one full revolution giving 2mm of movement. To lock off the height you simply insert the handle into the locking mechanism hole and rotate clockwise. The carriage of the lift travels on three steel guide posts, that are housed within sealed linear bearings to resist dust infiltration resulting in an ultra smooth rise and fall movement, with no side play. To mount your router, simply remove the router's sub-base and use it as a template to align and drill the 185mm diameter aluminium mounting plate. The insert plate is made from 10mm anodized aluminium which has an abrasion resistant finish and features a levelling system to ensure a flush fit to the table surface. The insert plate has a 90mm aperture and is supplied with two polycarbonate flush insert rings with centre holes of 50mm and 35mm.

Double Feather Board
These feather boards are an essential tool and provide even, consistent pressure on your workpiece up against the fence. They allow you to apply pressure closer to the router bit, at the most critical point, without risking injury to your fingers.©

Premium quality

This is a very well made and very accurate router table. I have fitted a large Makita 1/2" router to the lift and controlling the height is smooth and precise. All the components can be finely tuned for pin point accuracy. The large surface area of table allows for workpieces to be passed through the bit having excellent support. I would highly recommend.

This package is a bit of a curate's egg...

This package is a bit of a curate's egg. Good in parts, bad in parts. First the good. It's a cracking price. It arrived blindingly fast in three separate packages, all arriving at the same time & very securely packaged. The top, in fact, is packed up in 3 layers of cardboard like a Russian doll. Everything looks good out of the box. The top is flat to 0.05mm checked every which way with slip gauges against a Rutlands Dakota 3' aluminium straight edge. The fence is absolutely A1, far exceeding my expectations. It's dead straight along the face and 90deg to the table all the way along. No cup, no bow, no crown, no twist. I simply cannot fault it. Likewise the plate is dead flat in every direction. The legs are heavy gauge steel, 1/8" or 3mm thick or thereabouts. The connecting rail plates are 1mm thick. Everything's neatly drilled and finished. So far so good. I put it together following the instructions precisely and set about plate levelling. After a couple of hours of failing to get the plate level, I realised something really wasn't right. So back to the slips and straight edge I went. Yikes! The table had bowed downwards in the middle, left to right and front to back. I could now easily get a 0.3mm slip in the gaps. I loosened off the screws connecting the top to the upper rails and ran the rule again. The top had returned to its former flatness. Then I eyeballed the interface between the top and the rails. Basically the top rests flat on the top of all four legs but the rails do not butt right up to the underside of the top, no matter how high you pull them and they're all bowed downwards slightly in the middle. Thus there is a gap of about 1&1/2mm at the ends of the rails increasing to about 2mm in the centre. Tightening the connecting screws simply pulls the top down in the middle to meet the rails. I thought about just leaving it floating but noticed that even fairly light hand pressure would deflect the top downwards in the middle. I also noticed a bit of racking. In practice leaving it floating isn't going to work. So after 2 half days of experimentation I came up with a simple, cheap, effective and, I think, elegant solution. I flipped it back upside down and removed the legs, complete with the lower rails. Then removed the upper rails from the top. Note the long, side to side rails have 4 screw holes, the short front to back rails have 3. I took a bag of standard M5 washers and stacked them in piles 3 high, tacking them together with grease. I put a stack of 3 under the middle 2 holes of the longer rails and 1 stack under the middle hole of the short rails. This left one fixing hole at the end of each rail. Under these I put a single washer and a single M5 shake-proof washer. The latter is approx the same thickness as 2 standard washers but compresses down nicely to the right shim size without pulling the top down. Then I tightened up the middle screws tight and the end screws enough to get a solid fix without distorting the top. Now when I presented the legs and the rest of the base it all bolted it up nicely without issues. The question then is whether it's worth the money. Well it's clearly, ahem, inspired by the JessEm basic set up. At the time of writing that would cost 127.55 for the Rout-R-Table, 187.57 for the Phenolic Mast-R-Top, 172.57 for the (original) Mast-R-Fence II, 59.99 for the Rout-R-Plate, and 18.75 for the Corner Levelling Pads. That's 551.45 plus delivery from the States, plus Import Duty plus VAT. That would probably come to over 700.00 altogether. So yes. This package is indeed a terrific bit of kit and an outstanding bargain, notwithstanding. BTW the double featherboards are also a cracking piece of kit at a fantastic price. Three cheers for The Ruttles!
