FULL DESCRIPTION
R2 Lathe Variable Speed - 305mm x 610mm
This is an exceptional woodturning lathe. Compared to many other bench top lathes it has greater work holding capacity allowing for 305mm bowl turning and 610mm spindle turning and has the advantage that you can extend the bed at a later stage to increase spindle turning to 1300mm. It is powered by a high torque, DC motor which is extremely quiet in use, even at maximum speed and under full load.

A non-slip poly V belt efficiently transmits power from the motor whilst the motor controller automatically increases the level of torque to maintain the speed, as load on the workpiece is increased. The two step pulley, in conjunction with the variable speed control results in two speed ranges of 250 to 1300rpm and 700 to 3450rpm, allowing you to fine tune the speed to suit small, medium and large turnings. The digital read out is ideally positioned on the tailstock to offer perfect visibility. The level of vibration is remarkable low, due to the substantial grey iron castings which have the mass needed to dampen and absorb vibration. The cast iron headstock is CNC machined for the precise alignment of the drive spindle and the extra wide roller bearings, ensuring class leading concentricity.

The drive spindle has a 1" x 8tpi thread with a No 2 morse taper to allow for the fitting industry standard chucks and attachments. The tailstock has No 2 morse taper which is hollowed out to accept drill bits when turning standard and bed side lamps. The tool rest is held firmly in the non-slip banjo and will not wander when roughing out or turning large bowls and platters. The bed of the lathe is finely ground for smooth tool rest positioning. All of the adjustment handles are ergonomic and can be locked off to prevent obstruction with the turning tool.

The lathe comes complete with a revolving centre, four prong centre, face plate, knock out rod and spindle locking wrenches . This lathe is ideal for bowl and platter turning, goblet, vase and egg cup turning, pen turning and all between centres work. This is a premium performance lathe that is extremely quiet in operation, virtually vibration free and features a variable speed, high torque motor and control unit.

Precision 75 Woodturning Chuck
The new Precision 75 Woodturning Chuck is engineered to ensure that the workpiece sits as close as possible to the headstock, therefore reducing load and minimizing wear on the main spindle bearing. This chuck is extremely strong and durable, as it is machined from a special grade of medium-tensile steel, which is normally used for the manufacture of high performance turbo impellors, pistons and gears. Using this steel allows for closer tolerances during the manufacturing process which results in excellent concentricity to minimize vibration and to ensure that a chatter-free, super fine finish can be achieved by the woodturner. It is the latest advancement in work holding systems for discerning woodturners. Precision engineered and beautifully balanced, it offers superior performance combined with rock-solid holding power and excellent load bearing capability.

The chuck is specifically designed so the jaws cut into the wood to provide a class leading clamping force, unlike other woodturning chucks that use engineering jaw profiles which crush the wood fibres and do not grip the workpiece as securely. The precision machined scroll mechanism and the high ratio gearing combine to ensure for a strong grip irrespective of workpiece size. The four jaws open and close using a T-handled key, allowing for one handed operation, leaving one hand free to support and balance your workpiece when mounting and dis-mounting the workpiece. Measuring 70mm in diameter, this chuck can be used on all sizes of lathe from large capacity professional lathes through to midi and mini lathes.

The chuck kit contains the Precision 75 chuck body, 50mm dovetail jaws, 65mm faceplate ring, 35mm pin jaws and screw chuck. This wide array of jaws allows for all popular turning projects including; spindles, bowls, goblets, candlesticks, pepper mills, pens and pencils up to 20kg and more. The chuck and jaws are presented in a box set, which features a dedicated foam cut out to aid protection when not in use. ©

Looks a quality Lathe

I am relatively new to wood turning and this my first new Lathe. I am still in the process of setting things up and making room in my shed to accommodate it. Bought this after doing a lot of research and I must say it looks very well made and is so quiet and runs really smoothly.

Delivery was prompt, but I would have liked parcel forces tracking to give more helpful information instead of just saying "out for delivery" without giving any idea of the time frame.

Rutland's email communication is good but I do feel that there should be a contact phone number in place also to make it possible to speak directly to someone to get a quick answer to any queries. Not come across that iny dealings with companies before. This is my first purchase from Rutland's and I feel satisfied otherwise.

Great quality lathe.

This is my first lathe so I'm no expert, but the quality is very good. Alignment is bang on and motor is surprisingly quiet even though the power is more than ample.
Very pleased with purchase, especially with 20% off!
Easy to assemble and use.
Good service and quick delivery
Great buy.

Been running this lathe for around a month

Been running this lathe for around a month now and it has not missed a beat so far. The quality is excellent for the money and all of the woodturning gear I have purchased since has been top notch. Speed control works well and the spindle turns absolutely true and steady. I already have orders for Christmas gifts! One very happy customer.

Spent that bit extra for the convenience

Spent that bit extra for the convenience of the variable speed and longer bed, which is certainly worth it. Feels like a top quality machine, well-engineered and the finish is excellent. The centres were aligned perfectly out of the box and the tool rest feels sturdy and substantial. I bought the chuck package as I had already inherited a set of decent chisels, and the quality of the chuck is excellent also. Looking forward to many years of service on this lathe.

Bought to replace an inferior lathe

Bought to replace an inferior lathe which made woodturning an exercise in frustration. This, on the other hand, is an absolute joy to use and makes me realise what I have been missing. Incredibly easy to use, even the grandson has been enjoying it. Superb service and speedy delivery from Rutlands my love for turning has been rekindled!
