R4 Lathe Variable Speed - 203mm x 305mm
The Rutlands® R4 variable speed lathe is ideal for the smaller workshop, offering the same exceptional build quality and performance as its larger counterparts, only in a compact, more portable package. Perfectly suited to the beginner woodturner or those with limited workshop space, the R4 lathe is designed for smaller scale projects, whether turning pens, goblets, pepper mills or bowls.
The robust, CNC machined grey cast iron components ensure vibration-free turning and controllable, enjoyable operation. The maximum working diameter is 203mm and the distance between centres is 305mm. Supplied with the lathe are two solid cast iron tool rests, 115mm and 177mm in length, providing support whether faceplate turning or performing longer, between centre work. All banjo, tool rest and tailstock adjustments are made using ergonomic locking levers which can be positioned safely out of the way to prevent obstruction whilst turning.
The 300W motor provides ample power for smaller scale projects and operates within a variable speed range of 750 - 3200 rpm. The non-slip poly V belt ensures efficient power transmission and an incredibly smooth and quiet forward drive. Easy to use, the full speed range is operated from a single variable speed knob, requiring no repositioning of the drive belt. The drive spindle is precisely aligned and runs in extra wide roller bearings to ensure class-leading concentricity. The drive spindle has a 1" x 8tpi thread with a No 1 morse taper for the fitting of industry standard chucks and attachments. The tailstock has a No 1 morse taper for accepting live centres and drill chucks and is hollowed out to accept drill bits for long hole boring.
Requiring very minimal assembly, the lathe is ready to use in minutes and weighing only 20kg with a 730 x 150mm footprint, can be easily stowed away when not in use. Supplied with the lathe is a face plate, spur centre, live centre, knockout tool and 177mm and 155mm tool rests.
Precision 75 Woodturning Chuck
The Precision 75 woodturning chuck is engineered to ensure that the workpiece sits as close as possible to the headstock, reducing load and minimizing wear on the main spindle bearing. The chuck is machined from a special grade of incredibly strong and durable medium-tensile steel, allowing for closer tolerances during the manufacturing process resulting in excellent concentricity, minimising vibration and ensuring a chatter-free, super fine finish to the workpiece.
Precision engineered and beautifully balanced, the chuck offers superior performance combined with rock-solid holding power and excellent load bearing capability. The precision machined scroll mechanism and the high ratio gearing combine to ensure for a strong grip irrespective of workpiece size. The four jaws open and close using a T-handled key, allowing for one handed operation, leaving one hand free to support and balance your workpiece when mounting and dis-mounting the workpiece. The chuck kit contains the Precision 75 chuck body, 50mm dovetail jaws, 65mm faceplate ring, 35mm pin jaws and screw chuck.
K10 Carbide Mini Woodturning Tools - Set of 3
Comprising of three carbide tipped turning tools, measuring 330mm in overall length, this mini tool set is specifically designed for turning small-scale and precise projects. Extremely easy to master and control these carbide tip tools leave an incredibly smooth surface that requires minimal sanding. Unlike conventional turning tools that require a sweeping movement to ensure a smooth cut, these tools simply require you to advance or retract the tip as you move the tools across the tool rest. The tips are manufactured from K10 carbide, which is extremely hardwearing, retaining its edge for longer even when working with hard and exotic woods. The blades are bevelled and will not clog in wet or resinous woods, ensuring a smooth and consistent finish to the workpiece. When the blade shows signs of wear simply rotate it around to an unused section to create a fresh edge.
The handles are ergonomically designed to allow for optimum grip and comfort and are made from a slow growing beech that has been selected for its straight grain, to ensure maximum strength. The shanks of the blades are buried deep into the beech handles and secured by a solid stainless steel ferrule. ©
